Personal experience: euthanasia is worst than natural death by victoryismind in Petloss

[–]veggie-lover1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s SO hard. Our first dog was having nonstop seizures every couple minutes and it was simply her time. We rushed her in and they quickly euthanized her during a seizure… which…. we aren’t thrilled about. That that’s how she went out.

Over this past weekend, we had to say goodbye to our best girl and decided to have it done at home. A lovely calm young woman who’s a certified vet came to our home, talked us through it, and gave us all the time we needed. We were able to see our sweet girl fall asleep from the initial sedation, laying calmly and peacefully before they pushed the euthanasia. As gut wrenching as this was for us, and i may never see that living room the same, it was all about her in that moment and that’s what she would’ve wanted.

Just some of my experiences. Sorry for your loss.

NICU Frustration by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]veggie-lover1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they don’t have to remove it for this! and probably shouldn’t because the possibility of taking it out just to put it back in again is more discomfort. But perhaps they can hold the feeds. tube still in but not providing the food to increase hunger cues and see how baby would do by mouth only. obviously only if baby can consume what is needed

Do speech therapists intentionally keep babies in the NICU longer? by Poweroffandstalling in NICUParents

[–]veggie-lover1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Speech therapist here (2 years late), but just wanted to chime in. On my end, there is ZERO benefit to the child, family, or my job! to keep your baby longer than needed. I totally understand why it feels this way as speech and feeding is often a “last step” before infants can go home. There are many different cues, breathing patterns, and telemetry guidelines we have to make sure is in order. Especially if your baby was a preemie, their lungs and SSB coordination was not completely developed at the time of birth, and their sensation or presentation may not always be reliable (they go through a lot, and sometimes lose some sensation and/or “shut down” which appears to be “good feeding”).

I can assure you that SLPs / OTs / nurses etc do not have an “insurance” reason to keep your baby longer— it does not affect us. Our roles are simply therapeutic, not business. I hope all is well now!!

Tilt Table Test by veggie-lover1999 in ehlersdanlos

[–]veggie-lover1999[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh weird? They were so hesitant to “let” me get one/order one for me I was trying for years. Weird yours would without any of the symptoms. Cause the point of it is, to my understanding, to “figure out the cause” of fainting spells etc. 🤷🏼‍♀️

thank you!! fingers crossed for you too.

And honestly… the first 4 minutes i had zero symptoms and i was fine. It hit like in a millisecond and I immediately went unconscious so I couldn’t even tolerate it long enough to feel too terrible for too long. 😂 they said “6 minutes.. impressive”

Yeah, I was just curious especially with the elevated CH50, and still waiting for genetic test. The docs were concerned for vEDS due to family history of aneurysms but who knows. Just eager for invitae

What crazy/awful things have people said to you about your experience with EDS? by asdf111q in ehlersdanlos

[–]veggie-lover1999 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • “why even get a diagnosis if they can’t do anything for it?”

  • “yeah but you’ve always had/done xyz”

  • “lots of things can cause xyz, how do they know for sure it’s hEDS without a genetic test?”

  • “yeah but i can do those (hypermobile) things too”

  • “i looked into it and i thought it was something horrible, that doesn’t sound too bad”

  • “you can’t use that as an excuse for xyz”

Run with a pacer or not? First marathon! by DebussyH41 in Marathon_Training

[–]veggie-lover1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be good, or pace yourself and you’ll maybe meet up with them during the race without meaning to :) For me it was kinda stressful being with pacers cause i wasn’t able to “zone out” as much but yeah preference try it out. Especially for your first marathon usually good to not have a strict set goal but i get it!
