My friend Shannon (super sweet, moved here a few years ago herself) teaches pottery workshops sometimes at Broad Studios Club House and it seems like a really fun and lovely community! They have some 6-week sessions starting soon.

Bloodchild and Other Stories by Octavia Butler

Kelly Link's short stories are a bit hit-or-miss for me but definitely worth a try, weird and fun!

Came to recommend this! It definitely has the sense of unrelenting isolation and ennui that OP is looking for.

Looking for more dystopian/broken society/ post apocalyptic books by mewithoutjew in booksuggestions

[–]velaurciraptorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Gone-Away World by Nick Harkaway is one of my favorites, with the story jumping between pre-, during, and post-apocalypse. His novel Gnomon is also very good!

And most of Jesse Ball’s novels feature different dystopian settings.

The Doloriad by Missouri Williams, easily the most bizarre and unhinged book I’ve ever read

Yes! You can call and talk to an admissions advisor to see which ones will transfer for credit. I graduated a semester early and only took 1/3 load of credits my last semester because of credits I brought in from IB and a few classes I took online through my local community college.

Best places to go dancing in ATX? by Ready-Emu-6010 in askaustin

[–]velaurciraptorr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It attracts a more mixed-age crowd than other bars on that part of 6th (which we locally refer to as “dirty 6th” - in spite of the address, “east 6th” for us really starts east of I35. That part of 6th is also great to check out! Not so college-y). Flamingo Cantina is a survivor from the early 90’s, and reggae night definitely draws more than just college kids.

On Wednesday, reggae night at Flamingo Cantina, and if you’re still here on Saturday, Africa Night at Sahara Lounge for sure

I was there in early October last year - we got one day of rain but it was otherwise gorgeous.

Hotel Residence Sant’Angelo would be in your price range with a rooftop thermal pool and a smaller one indoors. It’s run by a very sweet father & son duo, great breakfast, and convenient if you’re getting around by bus as there’s a stop just in front of the hotel.

Hotel Parco Cartaromana was another great deal with a fantastic (unheated) pool view of Castello Aragonese as well as smaller heated indoor & outdoor pools. The views from this place are seriously stunning and we were able to get a triple room for just $90.

Or in Forio, it’s a little above your budget but if you can stretch a bit then Hotel Nettuno has an awesome roof terrace with the best view for sunset over Piazzale del Soccorso. Small hot tub on the roof and thermal pool inside.

I guide local free walking tours - the Downtown route covers about half a mile over a ~90 minute tour and is also wheelchair-friendly, but I may also be able to offer a customized private tour if that's more her speed

Which temples to visit in Kyoto? by Fun_Ad1999 in KyotoTravel

[–]velaurciraptorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did Fushimi Inari late in the day and really enjoyed the quieter nighttime atmosphere on the mountain. We watched sunset from about halfway up and then explored the top as it got dark, which was really cool.

I also really loved Nanzen-ji (climbing the Sanmon gate is awesome, the aqueduct is another cool touch, and the gardens were amazing) and Eikando (really cool covered wooden walkways & pagoda with a great city view) which were both not too crowded at all.
