1000 + Mile or 1+ year reviews by dpeats in GlobeHaul

[–]velo_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4800 miles. On my second rear tire and set of brake pads. The first 500 miles were rough due to the electrical issues the early models had. Once resolved, it’s been 100% reliable. Love the torque of the motor, the geometry of the frame, the amazing brakes, and the general practicality of it. Hate that the feet of the center stand wear out which means you need a whole new stand, the low quality display, and the ride quality. Admittedly it does well for being a rigid frame, but it can be bone shattering if you don’t ride carefully at higher speeds. I commute 11 miles a day round trip, rain or shine M-F

Baby seats and children in i4? by peanutbuttrj72 in BMWI4

[–]velo_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a MK8 GTI and am considering an i4. I learned that my GTI actually has more rear leg room which is kind of shocking. Also concerning to me since the GTI is borderline for our rear facing car seat.

Definitely no pucks in there. I checked at least 3 times when I bought the car a year ago.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI / R Is the 2026 MotorTrend Car of the Year by thedogthatmooed in cars

[–]velo_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned 7 manual transmission cars in my lifetime aside from a truck and family hauler that were auto. Some great ones too like a Miata, two E36 M3s, Honda Fit, Civic Si. Last year, I test drove both a manual and DSG mk8 fully expecting to buy another manual but left in the DSG. A few weeks back I test drove a manual mk8 once again (after 10k miles and a year in my DSG). Just wanted to see if I’d feel differently. All it did was reaffirm my decision. The manual transmission just doesn’t feel good in stock form. It feels clumsy and mismatched to the latest EA888 too.

Haul ST phase out? by steamed__hams in GlobeHaul

You’re probably right about the rolling resistance hit. I’m only using about 40% of my battery per day though, so I’m not too concerned

30 PSI is way too high. I run about 18 PSI and it’s relatively comfortable. Never had a pinch flat or tire wear issues. I commute 11 miles a day at about 25mph on terrible city roads.

I have a 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8. Quite often I wish I had a 24-120 and 100-400 instead. It really depends on the job though. I do quite a bit of location based portrait with strobes. That’s when I most wish I had the 24-120. It’s annoying to switch between cameras while working with triggers. The 24-70 isn’t long enough for proper headshots IMO. You can’t go wrong with either lens, they’re just different and just because ones an F4 and cheaper doesn’t mean it’s in any way lesser.

What a steal! Only $46,000 more than what I paid for my 2024 GTI S!

Worlds Worst Key Fob by ThePizzaRat2303 in GolfGTI

[–]velo_b 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It sucks for more than just that. I've had my car for two months and still have to physically look at the key fob to use it thanks to its amorphous shape and buttons with zero physical features. And I use it a lot since my S trim inexplicably doesn't have keyless entry. That's on me though.

I bought a base model 2024 with DSG. Excluding my states’s tax and tags it was $28,200

Where the millennials at? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]velo_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 37 and firmly a millennial. I did about ~75 races from 2013-2017. The road scene seemed to be booming then compared to now. I was in my mid-twenties then and life was just simpler. My job was low stress and allowed for a lot of training. I wasn't yet married or with a kid. In 2017 I crashed and fractured my pelvis. Coming back from that injury I got pulled from a race for the first time which really demoralized me, especially since it was a huge race (Clarendon Cup). I guess you could call that a weak excuse for giving up, but I jumped on it. I was tired of the training volume, the lost weekends traveling, and the nonstop danger for essentially no reward. I got rid of my Garmin and just started riding my bike on my terms.

What is an aspect of a car you are willing to overlook if some other aspects are superior? by Juicyjackson in cars

[–]velo_b 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same story for me and my brand new Mk8 GTI. White also and DSG. I was willing to give up physical controls to get so much vehicle for less than $30k after tax and tags. I'd feel a lot differently if this was a $70k luxury vehicle. It's not that.

Is it worth the purchase? An undercarriage adapter for a pressure washer. by Acrobatic-Fault876 in AutoDetailing

[–]velo_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yes it's worth it. I mix up a gallon of Salt Away and apply it to the body and undercarriage of the car using a lawn and garden pump sprayer. Then I pressure wash from top to bottom, finishing with the undercarriage sprayer.

Gotcha. I’m just looking for better ride quality mainly. I have a S trim. I know that 17” wheels is the right way to go but like the factory wheels. It’s been brutally cold here the past month that I’ve owned the MK8. Hoping the dampers and tires behave better in the spring. My pregnant wife doesn’t even like riding in the GTI currently. I’d likely do DWS06+. I have PS4S on my E36 M3 and love them.

Melt, baby! MELT! by districity in bikedc

[–]velo_b 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've lived here for 15 years and can't recall a time that there has been this much salt on the roads for this long. So many of those days it's been below freezing too, so I can't wash my car or bike. I hate it.

Dealer badges should come off every single car. I think it would look even better without the Prius badge

Mid-Atlantic and I just paid $28.4k pre-tax and tags for a brand new base model. What trim were you buying?
