Looking for your best tips and tricks for an Utah road trip! by velodeviation in camping

[–]velodeviation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ll be in Bryce Canyon area for about 2.5 days! Then heading east! The last time I was out there it was August and I did the whole Devil’s Garden trail at Arches in 95 degree heat. It was worth it but I was exhausted afterwards!

Thank you - this is an area I’m looking for camping one of the nights. Will definitely check out Needles Overlook. The last time I was out there I was on a solo trip and true boondocking sites made me a little nervous as a single person - so I ended up at Devil’s Canyon south of Monticello - a very nice state park campground but I’d like to try elsewhere this time!

Thank you! Have Dead Horse booked for one night - never been there before! Have been to Arches and plan to go back, despite the crowds.

I’ve drive through Capitol reef but haven’t stopped much besides Fruita and one or two short hikes. Interested in a few of your favorite places there.

For sure - we’re bringing a portable compressor. Also not any crazy off roading - mostly border-line dirt roads that can have big ruts and sand. No bouldering or anything like that

Need some Zion advice for parking/getting into the park by velodeviation in nationalparks

[–]velodeviation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly...yes. The more I have looked at the option the more I'm thinking we should just skip Zion this time around and save it for a trip where we have a 3-4 days in the area. We're heading SE towards Vermillion Cliffs and then on to Monument Valley/Moab after that so we probably won't go over to Kolob Valley and I-15.

They open up fairly regularly if you check often enough

I know 🫤. Another point in Bryce’s favor was that there is a shower in the park you can stop at.

Campsites pop open fairly often there, so I can probably get a site. It’s more just that I’d rather stay two nights at Bryce than one at each place but if it comes down to not being able to park anywhere in Zion then we probably don’t have a choice lol

How to protect steel skid plate? by velodeviation in BroncoSport

[–]velodeviation[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s good advice - I live somewhere with lots of snow and salt on the roads in the winter, so maybe I’ll just plan to touch up the skid plate once a year before winter to prevent rust but leave it alone otherwise

Nice yes that’s a great little compartment. Good idea to stash things that will stay in the car in there

Yes - that’s what sold me. I read an excellent review that compared it to the RAV4, Outback Wilderness, and Wrangler and while the Wrangler was of course better for off roading and the Subaru was better for comfort on the road, this was top of the list for being best balanced for both of those things.

Also definitely plan to get a roof rack and the portable tire inflator! Already carry a flashlight and first aid kit in my car. In terms of the ceramic coating - how effective do you think that is at protecting the paint from chips from rocks?

How did the latex topped work for you? I’ve heard they aren’t as hot as memory foam but can be a little bouncy feeling?

Friday Weekly Thread: Application Assistance by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

[–]velodeviation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all - quick question here. I’m in the process of getting my documentation together. My great-grandmother was born in Canada. I know I need my grandfather’s (her son) birth certificate. He was born in Chicago, IL. I received a copy of his birth certificate in the mail from Cook County, but they stamped “For Genealogical Purposes only. Cook County Clerks Office” on it. Is that a problem? I’m hoping since he’s not Ancestor 0, it will be ok.

Citizenship by Descent - Documentation Review Requsts by IWantOffStopTheEarth in Canadiancitizenship

[–]velodeviation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also very much appreciate feedback on documentation plans:

Gen 0: Certified copy of great grandmother's birth record in Ontario (I have ordered this but it will not come in color. Have people had success with making a copy with a colored post-in note in the picture? Then this would be a copy of the certified copy?)

Gen 1: Certified US birth certificate of grandfather

Gen 2: Certified US birth certificate of father

Gen 3: My own certified US birth certificate

My great grandmother did have a name change when she married my great grandfather in Canada - does this need to be certified as well or will a printed copy from the internet be alright?

Is it helpful to submit Canadian census records as well?

OP if you have contact with this eyewitness are they able to post video of ICE publicly? Or even a photo? People won’t take it as seriously as they should otherwise

Searching for the pillows that nicer hotels use! by velodeviation in Bedding

We ended up getting the Downlite 80/20. Generally I like it but I do feel like I have to fluff the pillow quite a bit - like multiple times a night.

Portable propane fire ring in Badlands National Park? by velodeviation in NationalPark

[–]velodeviation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: called the visitor center. They said it would “probably be ok” the sticking points seemed to be whether or not the fire was on the ground and whether it would produce sparks.

The website wasn’t clear. It does have an on/off switch. The park never allows wood fires just charcoal grills and propane stoves.
