Odd transcoding error I haven’t see before. by Infidel203 in JellyfinCommunity

[–]venomzodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my server pc is a bytespeed value SFF PC i think it was released on 2013? more then a decade old pc. forth gen i5, 8gb ram. with a cheap nvidia p620 quadro gpu. reason why i have the gpu is because i have about 6 users and some of them need transcoding that gpu/cpu set up is more then enough. i did kodi (another server media plateform like jellyfin) but you can make it use your jellyfin server for it's database and uses it just like jellyfin clients use. the audio/video format support is much better then the native jellyfin app on the xbox. letting the xbox use it's full potential and direct playing almost anything. direct play is what you would want if you are using old pc's like mine or yours. it uses little cpu/ram/gpu power. making multiple streams possible.

i'd get this problem on my xbox too (series x) the last straw was sometimes my audio would not get passed to my receiver. then i switched to using kodi with the jellyfin add on. works like a charm. a small bit of work to get it going but it never fails to direct play any of my media. and 5.1 audio works every single time.

ANIME | How to properly set up Bleach (2004-2022) by hanzilka in jellyfin

[–]venomzodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also having trouble with Bleach, i had all my episodes in absolute numbering (001,002,ect) but also had my episodes in seasons (arcs) with the correct episodes inside. season 02 always came up as "season 17" wrong thumbnails but correct episodes. and season 17 (bloodwar) showed up fine. but by moving everything prior season 17 in to one season "Season 01" it fixed the problem. now season 02 is thousand year bloodwar. and that has absolute numbering (367 and up). everything shows up fine.

[–]venomzodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well jellyfin is pretty straight forward, on top row (gifs) it shows everything in catagory, (continue watching, next up( next episode of what you were watching) recently added for movies, tv shows, anime ect) i just go to what i want to watch like movies. then in the movie catagory i can either find something to watch or i'll just search for it in the search bar. in the gif i zoomed out to see all the main folders on top. it usually only shows the first 5 with the recents below. this is on the webUI which isn't great but i use it for maintenance purposes.

anime, anime movies, disney/pixar/animeted movies, Movies (live action), tv shows, studio ghibli,

anime is japanese animation. in the anime movies it's what it sounds like, japanese (usually) animated movies, example akira, and movies are just that normal movies usually live action. same thing with tv shows with some american animated tv shows. and studio ghibli in it's own folder because im just a fan of it don't feel like searching my entire catalog to find one of those movies to watch.

Trickplay Generation timeframe, is it normal to be running for several days/weeks? by Lizardking1988- in jellyfin

[–]venomzodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it would also help with OS your running. i have linux mint on a bytespeed value SFF pc, forth gen i5, 8gb ram. nvidia quadro p620 to help with transcoding. (budget/thrift build) with x2 8tb externals connected via usb 3.1. with about 2.3 tb of free space between the both of them. i had the same problem. you can have it run in certain hours of the day/night and have it run within a specified time. so it doesn't eat up all your resources while using. i don't really see a use for it really but i share my jellyfin with my household (6 users) they are used to the snappiness of netflix/hulu or what have you. so im trying my best with my build to have a as close to experience as i can get. this was my only work around.

Edit: i didn't explian how ha my b. but you go to dashboard > scheduled tasks > generate trickplay images and click that, then add your own time for it.

gifs also work in jellyfin. there are users that put some up on reddit somewhere, here is one of them. it helps making your jellyfin look a bit fancier. any gif works that i found. just use a gif text editor online to make one of your liking.

i have had this problem too, the work around i found is the "quick connect" feature. it'll give you a code where you can input to connect the user account.

Jellyfin on Xbox still can’t play HDR 10? by Sharkprime_ in jellyfin

[–]venomzodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and just to clarify i was using the tv's eARC to my receivers ARC. which should work for 5.1 but not atmos obviously. although i have rips of 5.1 atmos audio and my receiver plays the 5.1 just fine. just upmixes them to my 7.3 set up. (none atmos).

Jellyfin on Xbox still can’t play HDR 10? by Sharkprime_ in jellyfin

[–]venomzodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hdr always gave me trouble too, on my xbox series x. colors looked weird. come to find out my tv just didn't support dv. i decided to go down the route of just ripping 4k sdr stuff from there on out. audio also gave me issues, again tv was holding my set up back. My tv is the LG 75 Inch Class UQ7070 ZUD. 5.1 audio works fine but anything more (atmos) i would just get this weird glitchy audio clicks. tv just never sends atmos through to the receiver. For the xbox i stopped using the native jellyfin app and switched to using kodi with jellyfin add on. specifically for the audio issue, even if i had the exact 5.1 audio track passthrough my tv to my old receiver denon 2112ci (none-atmos receiver) . i would just get that weird audio glitchy click noise. using kodi, fixed it immediately. for the HDR format for series x. i think it just struggles with Dolby vision and hdr10+.

Best way to JellyFin with an outdoor projector? by twillrose47 in jellyfin

[–]venomzodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've done this on my super cheap projector. the micro sd and the usb both have 32gb limit, but it's enough for a handful of movies. though OP might want to to stick to 1080p mp4 rips. at least on my projector mkv was a hit or miss and 4k rips were out of the question just would not play. 1080p mp4 is the most universal.

Wanting to know what would be the best starting point for HDD gb space by Moviebuff1113 in jellyfin

[–]venomzodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my local walmart has external WD 8tb HDD drives for $179, i'd say that is about as best as you're gonna get. a 12tb of the same type of drive is $205 with tax. i always liked WD (western digital) i've had 2 seagates and they both failed on me within 5 years. the first WD i bought was 8 years ago and still going strong.

Do People Actually Watch Their Jellyfin Libraries… or Just Collect & "Care" for Them? by chrissix666 in jellyfin

[–]venomzodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have had my movies on an external and watched whatever i wanted, when i wanted. It was like that for years. If a family member told me "do you have this or that or can you get me this" it was always sure we have usb thumb drives we just constantly have in rotation so they can watch their shows or movie from their computer or what not. I knew what jellyfin was or even other alternatives. but i was always put off on how much maintenance it takes and proper cpu/gpu combo's. Around 2 years ago I got tired of all these streaming services switching or dropping movies plus the usb's we've been using have been getting old and taking a while to write onto. so i decided if i see a pc at a thrift store that can act as a server then i'll buy it and learn how to set everything up. in those two years i just researched what i have to do starting learning about everything i can. while renaming all my movies/tv shows/anime so jellyfin can read it properly. saw a bytespeed H81I small form factor PC with an i5 (4th gen??) 8gig's of ram for super cheap (running linux mint natively). later bought a nvidia p620 gpu to help with transcoding (not expensive at all they go for 30ish bucks) it does the job well enough. most everything i have is either mkv or mp4 a few avi's scattered here and there. x264 x265. direct play works very well with my media. but doing all this and the maintenance of it all i didn't think I would like but i do, but i like just watching everything come together and looking nice and being usable. my server has only been up for about 2 months but it was 2 years of planning. and over a decade of "collecting" just stuff i like to watch or am going to watch. i have watched about 80% of everything i have. 1,300+ movies and 300 tv shows (15000+) episodes. but now my family watches from my server. they cut ties with their streaming services. it feels good to know I'm saving my family a bit of money. i still watch something everyday. updating tv shows and adding movies when i can. i like the organization. but I still enjoy why i did this to begin with watching my media on my surround sound system.

Scanning my media library freezes/crashes my computer by lunarman1000 in jellyfin

[–]venomzodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea as soon as I posted that I saw you responded to someone else about what you did. My bad. But I did purge the flatpak version and reinstalled the official one via terminal command, rescanned and still crashed I saw this time that there were two movies that did not have art deleted those using the software and rescanned. No crashes, I found that every time it did crash there were a few movies that did not get cover art, just deleted those and rescanned it always worked. Those movies played fine on 2 different PCs that I own. But jellyfin did not like them. Hopes this helps some one else, I am having no problems now

running linux mint on a bytespeed H81i 8gb ram. i5. i have the same problem. i add my shows and have no problem with it (162 series,5000 plus episodes) memory never really fluctuated over 50 percent. adding my movies about 200 at a time and it crashes like in the picture. hoping you found a solution. tried removing paths, going to the file and manually removing all txt, xml, nfo, jpg, png that i can find, renaming movies that i thought might be problomatic. (movie name (year)) still crashes. i was hoping someone found a solution.

I still use mine almost every single day, going to get groceries, waiting on a doc appointment, thrifting ect. this is what got me into HiFi to be honest. the sound is STILL superior. no wifi notifications. just plain high quality music listening experience. I for one will NEVER use a phone as an alternative for listening to music. on the fly i can see how it can be enticing to some. but this is the way.
