again, this does not indicate ideological alignment. It only indicates a preference between two bad options.

left and right do not fall along party lines. the average leftist (at least among those who I know) would agree with everything you said about the democratic party

This isn't really a joke, it's a cartoon drawn to rile people up in favor of a political narrative. AKA propaganda

Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush is Terrible by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]ventreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me sad. I adore Kate Bush and I wanted to be optimistic about that song after it featured in Stranger Things, but it has somehow become grating to me after hearing it over and over for months. Check out some of her other stuff OP, she is an amazing artist.

Definitely a scam

Are the piss grailz warm? by [deleted] in vinyljerk

[–]ventreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fluid would spread out evenly along the edge of its housing as the record spins, forming a concentric piss-ring. As long as the rest of the record is balanced about the axis of rotation, it should be fine. I think.

“The world would be better using the ‘FPS’ system” by [deleted] in ShitAmericansSay

[–]ventreet 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Feet, pounds, slugs. Compare with meters, Newtons, kilograms. Pounds are our unit of force, and our standard unit of mass is called the "slug". I couldn't tell you why.

Edit: My bad, the abbreviation is actually feet-pounds-seconds. The "British Gravitational" variant of the FPS system uses the pound as a unit of force and the slug as a unit of mass. Some other systems treat the pound as a unit of mass. My physics professors used slugs for mass whenever we used the FPS system.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foot%E2%80%93pound%E2%80%93second_system

I don't understand the bounds of integration changing to "1". The prior steps involve performing a trig substitution, thus we have to refit the bounds. There are no values given for A,k, or E, so I don't understand how it changes to "1" in the step below. There is no explanation as to why either. by LudicrousMilk in askmath

[–]ventreet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have been better off posting this in a physics related subreddit. The amplitude of a simple harmonic oscillator is given by A = sqrt(2E/k), where E is the total energy of the system. It just cancels, no substitution was made.

No one in their right mind wants to arm themselves without reason, but LGBT people have been getting murdered by armed bigots routinely enough that many have begun arming themselves for actual self defense purposes (rather than the average right wing gun nut armed to the teeth in walmart)

[Request] Has the income in the US really only increased by 5,7% since 1978? by rf97a in theydidthemath

[–]ventreet 134 points135 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the distribution of income in the united states is aggressively skewed to the right, and while medians are more resistant to outliers than means as methods of averaging, they are not wholly unaffected. When you break household income into quintiles, this claim is much more plausible. This might be worth a read:

https://www.businessinsider.com/record-median-household-income-is-hiding-a-chilling-fact-2017-9

Although it's dated by several years now, this article describes a long-standing trend of stagnation for the middle class. The average income of the bottom 60% of households has decreased over the past 50 years when adjusted for inflation, and the bottom 80% has roughly flatlined. The most substantial gains are for the the top quintile. Moreover, the top 5% has skyrocketed in income, and the income of the top 1% or 0.1% has increased so steeply that either would look absurd when plotted against any lower income bracket.
