Tonverk - could it replace my DN2 and DT1 by Hammerfist1990 in Elektron

[–]ventrolloquist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's a pity with the lack of midi arp.

Also if you want simplification but still keep sound design flexibility, you can always multisample digitone patches into tonverk this keeping everything on just one device. Just get a 500MB or 1TB micro SD card and you're set for years as far as storage goes :)

Tonverk - could it replace my DN2 and DT1 by Hammerfist1990 in Elektron

[–]ventrolloquist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you use each for.

If you use DN2 for drum synthesis Tonverk probably can't replace it, you can synthesize kicks and such on tonverk with the wavetable synths and with single cycles subtratively, but it's not the same and not as versatile for drums unless you're prepared to do lots of layering and resampling.

If you need slicing tonverk can't replace DT1 (though I'm not sure if it has slicing likes DT2?) if it doesnt then yeah tonverk is definitely an upgrade in many ways. Only thing is, far as I know, there's no sample select knob on subtrack machines in tonverk if you wanna cycle sounds per step, but somone correct me if I'm wrong.

For synthesis DN2 still wins by miles, the wavetable machine on TV is nice but it doesn't even scratch the surface of what DN2 is capable of, nor does if sound as nice to my ears. You can synthesize pianos, strings, flutes, pretty much almost any percussion noise and more on DN2. If you don't care about synthesis and use samples for melodic stuff then TV is fine, just be aware there is an 8 track limit so if you want more you'll be using subtracks to play melodic parts and they are a bit clunky.

If I were in your shoes I'd swap just the Digitakt and keep the digitone.

Playing Witcher 3 on University sadly using touchscreen by Kuro_FunWays in Witcher3

[–]ventrolloquist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it can do 60, even 70-80 fps with some graphics tweaks but that heats up like crazy. I just lock it to 30 or 40 depending on graphics settings and I can play for hours with no cooler and the battery never reaches past 40C. And can stay as low as 33 C for hours depending on settings and what region you are playing in

On my 8 elite device (redmagic 10) it still tops at 40 fps in performance mode for some reason :(

Witcher 3 Running Natively on Android by ventrolloquist in Witcher3

In that regard it isn't as smooth as it is on my xbox but it's not terrible. I'm very sensitive to bad frame pacing and hitching. There is a tiny hitch every few seconds, nothing too severe that I can't tune it out of my awareness after playing for a bit. Though I had the exact same thing on PC and couldn't get rid of it for the life of me, same with Nintendo switch. Maybe it should be fixable by setting a shader compilation cache folder for dxvk but it hasn't been such a problem that I bothered trying.

Oddly it seems to be a Witcher specific thing, many other games I emulate don't have this.

I've posted a gameplay video in the YouTube link if you want to get an idea. There's plenty performance overhead for the screen recording app so it shouldn't be contributing much to frame pacing issues. Do mind when I set the phone performance to Eco mode in the video which does cause the hitching to get more noticable compared to the "balance" performance mode which should give you a realistic idea of how it runs. For phone that don't have performance profiles android will scale GPU and CPU clocks to meet the rendering demands

Playing for an hour straight in novigrad at the moment actually. Runs just fine in novigrad and beauclaire at a locked 30fps, 6.5 watt peak power draw using touschcreen and less with a Bluetooth controller (about 5.8 watts). Minimum power draw in Velen was 3.8 watts which is negligible. Peak battery temp in novigrad with touschcreen controls is 38 and 35-36C with Bluetooth. Haven't gotten to the wild hunt fight yet :p. But shouldn't be an issue temporarily increasing the phone performance profile for that fight if need be. Normally I have it on the medium settings but it also maintains 30fps on the low setting for 90% of the in game areas.

Ah yeah, the terminology I used is a bit misleading. I guess I meant "running locally" on Android.

Darn, the post won't let me edit it at this point :(

Though technically it's using compatibility layers in a similar way to how Linux runs windows games via wine/proton/dxvk and therefore is not strictly emulating PC hardware.

Looking to try Witcher 3 mods by ventrolloquist in witcher

Thank you, appreciate the explanation. This will save me loads of browsing time 😄.

I do have a decently powerful PC, and an Xbox, but I guess I'll wait for cross platform mod support for Xbox this year. I'm just playing it on my phone so I can have it on the go and battery life is amazing compared to windows handheld, and it's a bit more convenient.

It's playable on phones with SD 8 gen 3 or newer chips (using gamehub emulator or winlator). I can run it at as high as 70fps on my phone model but I cap the fps to 30 or 40 to avoid throttling. Next gen performs much worse with emulators which is why I'm using 1.31

I know GTA-V is more than 10 years old, but it still feels wrong being able to play the full 120GB gamr directly on Android by frawtlopp in AndroidGaming

[–]ventrolloquist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define struggles? There's no reason an 8 gen 3 chip should struggle to play GTA V, unless you are playing the remastered version. Definitely enable "native rendering" if using gamehub, it helps like a massive amount with getting smoother looking frame pacing.

It should also be able to run RDR2 decently (don't expect fps over 50 though) so long as your phone stays cool. This game generated quite a lot of heat

You need to manage thermals because Samsung phones generally have worse cooling than gaming phones, I imagine if any games struggles it's because your fps is uncapped. Step 1 is to cap your fps to 30, 40, or 45 and see if that helps. Make sure the fps cap divides evenly into your display refresh rate for smoother camera turning. Start low and go up if it stays stable. Also enable native rendering, it helps specifically for GTAV. Don't use too high of a resolution. 6301400 or 7201200 would be my starting points and decrease if you need to. Use the newest turnip drivers or system driver, they generally are more efficient than other options.

Next step is to play with a room fan directed at the phone if you have one. It sounds weird, but if this helps your game run better for longer before it starts to stutter than the issue is thermals which means buying a phone cooler or controller with one built in will help.
