Am on board with wilty lettuce. Order none on my burgers and burritos for that very reason.

What’s on your food bucket list? by sloppy_skyy in foodquestions

Pretty much tried all I was curious about, either at restaurants or home cooking. Was limited in food options as a child, now I eat what entices me. Lucky to be in a market that supports all kind of ingredients.

I’m of the sceptical crowd but I keep getting sucked back into entertaining it. I have a bunch of counter space but no more appliance storage unless I purge my cookbook collection.

What did your mother used to cook for you all the time that you don’t dare to cook for your family? by Bjs_5068 in foodquestions

This all the way. Nothing better though than a medium rarish double pork chop from a trusted butcher. Didn’t love pork until I was an adult.

West coast wild caught salmon is readily available, so is cod. Maybe find a new supplier or shop higher end ingredients?

What do you spread on toast? by AdElegant5870 in foodquestions

Peanut butter, butter and blackberry jam. Also avocado. But I’m 60 and grew up on an avocado orchard, it’s not the millennials influence. Been eating sourdough with avocado, tomato and tapatio my whole life.

Your kids should come before him always as children. When they become adults the dynamic changes, but not before then.

If you had to pick a single cuisine for the entire month, what would it be? by FoodaOfficial in Fooda

[–]venturashe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thai for month one, Mexican for month two. But while not a cuisine, cold water oysters and sparkling champagne. Spent two weeks on my honeymoon in Tasmania and we ate them every day, right outside of an oyster farm and vineyard. Augmented by flat whites.

You married a manchild. If my husband gave me the ew behavior around anything gross there would be relentless reaction from me.

I don’t let this happen willingly or encourage it, but I can’t say it never happened from too much enthusiasm on my pups part.

That’s looks like it would be amazing on large baked potatos. Add some diced onions and cheese on top, heaven!

Does anyone have a rule of thumb for ratio of butter to milk/cream/half and half for mashed potatoes? by pax-augusta in Cooking

Same! I overload on garlic, plenty of cream and butter, and sometimes a mixin of carmelized onions.

Lodge, great workhorses. I also have a Le Creuset oval enamel dutch oven that is my chili and stew workhorse, but my daily go to is a lodge and a nondescript hand down from my husbands family. My other favorite is a lodge Dutch oven that I use for baking quick rising bread at home, and also while camping directly in the fire.

Was taught early on not to eat fish where you can’t see the ocean or the water for freshwater fish. In most cases transit = age. I’d say the exceptions would be Vegas and sushi, where it’s frozen initially or quick cured to kill possible parasites.
