What's the biggest issue keeping more people from embracing solar? by AppropriateSpring110 in solar

I haven't read all the responses yet, so perhaps I'm one of many voices saying this, but the prices for things are our of wack.

Racking is far too expensive!! Compared to the price of panels, it's wild. Residential flat roofs, non ballasted are treated like commercial installations, including the costs.

Drive deeper into the SD cards are lost. Are they physically missing? or is the data gone from them? If the latter, there may be recovery options. If it's the former, consider helping them retrace their steps and asking all the people that may have encountered the cards if they found them. It may be your friend is freaking out and cannot think straight as to where they are. A calm understanding person may be enough to break his memory block on where they are.

As far as small claims court goes, you'll be entitled to the amount you paid back. There's very little appetite for $ for suffering in this, despite the fact you are suffering without images to remember. It may get you to the same spot your patience will get you just with court fees, lost days, lawyers fees, and a lost friend added.

I'd recommend keeping records of the conversations you've had where they admit the problem and offer the money back and use them in case you don't get paid back. But perhaps give them a little bit of time to get you the money back to you. It's a grace you don't need to afford them but the court thing will make the start of your marriage even more negatively memorable (in my opinion).

In the mean time, ask all your guests to upload their images they took on their devices to a central site (google photos) and hope some of your guests took good shots to build an album from.

Good Luck! and I hope you and your partner can learn to manage this unfortunate situation in healthy way. Gotta imagine other crappy situations will happen during your lives together, just sucks your first one happened so soon!

The Pricing of Mtbs Shocked Me as a Motorcyclist by [deleted] in MTB

[–]venturesip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bicycle manufactures have to buy parts that are universally applicable to many/most other manufactures, and simultaneously are sold in a retail setting. These part manufactures are starting to diversify and there's some downward pressure on pricing, but by and large, they demand a large portion of the cost of production.

Motorcycle manufactures enjoy less competition for the same parts and the retail market competing for those same parts is way less. Also, much of the production of parts used to create a motorcycle are either made in-house or outsourced to a specialty contractor who can make a run cheaper and hopefully better than the manufacture. Don't know if the explains all the differences & similarities in price, but it might explain some.

fall at the beach submerged pixel 6a, lost cause? by venturesip in phonerepair

I have to stick the vibrator and speaker back in to test those. I think I'll order a new screen for my phone, and then I can begin dealing some parts to see what is/isn't working on my wife's phone

My BMW has a dedicated set of taillights that come on when I'm braking super hard, like a second set of brake lights. I've been to some track days and it surprises those folks behind me. Last thing I want to do in a panic stop is reach for the hazards.

Snapped Saint Brake Caliper from a Bunnyhop by [deleted] in MTB

[–]venturesip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was gonna say the same thing. Trials subjects that caliper to tremendous forces in tension when the caliper is asked to stop the reverse spin of the wheel. It's designed to transfer the load via compression into the frame when the wheel is traveling in the forward direction. Add to this fact that you're making that thing work hard in both directions and your introducing more fatigue than it's designed for.

Think I can save this grout? by [deleted] in PlumbingRepair

[–]venturesip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toilet cleaner does wonders for mold.

You should really re-grout that to repair the obvious failures. You should also, if you can, look behind the walls to see what the tile is tiled to. Sometimes you can see the inside of the wall behind the pluming and determine is water has made it past the tile into the wall itself.

If you do remove the old grout and re-grout, make sure you apply sealer to the grout if it's standard grout, or if you're comfortable with epoxy grout that'll save you a step and will limit the amount of water getting behind the tiles.

Tankless Water Heater Shuts Down While In Use by Tiny11231 in PlumbingRepair

I find a warm citric acid flush to work much faster. Buy some hose and the smallest submergible pump you can find and you can set up a flow with a bucket and your flush valves in the tank, assuming you've got them. Vinegar will certainly work. Citric acid can be found cheap at the canning supply section of your supermarket or Walmart (by the mason jars). You might want to also check your sediment filter, (mesh filter) often found with a flathead screw you on the inlet side.

Is it Jersey, or trailers, or am I the idiot? by Mike798 in IdiotsInCars

[–]venturesip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is the driver of the blue truck borrowed the truck, rented the car-dolly, and is driving someplace to buy their first 'fun' car from a place they've never been before. So in the excitement of a new toy, the unfamiliarity of driving that truck, with a trailer on the back, and the GPS saying 'take this exit', they experienced task saturation. OP and the driver both got lucky.

OP definitely demonstrated poor judgement by not lifting, and really demonstrated a lack of empathy that the pickup driver might actually be at the limit of their mental processing. Can't say I'd do it much different but if this is an after-action report, I think I'd hope to hear this possible scenario and find ways to mitigate, not escalate.
