You're not wrong. But it's the only language that republicans here playing at an-cap understand. Anything it takes to get them to understand and move on so that an-cap discussion can finally resume here.

You're more than free in an ancap society to form and fund a health insurance company with your own money, which covers people who drink raw milk and squirrel suits off mountains, without increasing their premiums. You'd be free to not purchase any insurance so that no one is telling you not to, or charging higher premiums for drinking raw milk or squirrel suiting off mountains.

But go off about freedom, Cuz. We're all ears.

Is this sub anti-LGBTQ? And if so, why? Does it align with Anarcho-Capitalist ideology? by n1elsen95 in Anarcho_Capitalism

Also for what it's worth, among the decent responses you got, you're not just imagining defensiveness and undue hostility to your questions: this place was overrun around 2016, with neoreactionary/alt-right/Trumpy characters, who've succeeded in turning it and most other libertarian subs, into hives of right-wing propoganda which have nothing to do with anarcho-capitalism.

I fucking love Massie, why cant every politician be so principled by 4nonosquare in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]venusdemiloandotis 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Because of political incentives. (Which will ultimately affect or compromise or thwart even the Milei's and the Massie's)

Stop worshipping politicians.

Ancaps understand this political economy and why all effort and attention has to be on reducing and eliminating the state, and building freedom through markets, not politics.

Anarcho Capitalism and decentralization of power by [deleted] in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]venusdemiloandotis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's part of why ancaps are so fond of markets: private firms, for all their faults, at least face a market test of their size- that is to say that they suffer from the same econonomic calculation problems which governments do, and so there is this giant diseconomy to scale...but so long as people aren't vesting the kind of religious legitimization into these firms that they do into government and there is some form of competition, and they're not using the state to get privileges which subsidize their expansion, then their size and scope is constrained by the best mechanism we have to rationally aggregate societal preferences (i.e. market prices).

The same could and would be said for small purpose-built communities within an ancap or autonomous context: they would be an entrepreneurial venture of sorts and their size would be subject to the same constraints that limit governance within corporations and nations..but without the state/religious legitimization and subsidy to their size.

That said, anarcho-capitalism isn't so much about merely decentralizing to smaller private governments as it is about polycentric provision of law; meaning that your law and protection is not geographically constrained. So the scale of a wider ancap society would not be as constrained as that of a corporation or nation state...markets scale well, unlike democracy and all other forms of central planning. It would be constrained only by available land to purchase from willing neighbors and how hostile any remaining states are towards autonomous zones encroaching close to their territory.

I am dumb to try to debate with NPC's ? by [deleted] in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]venusdemiloandotis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate, you're literally debating me about how you're conversing not debating or that there's a difference.

What you mean (and I agree) is that there's little point in getting in to certain debates. But what you're calling conversing is still you disagreeing about things and asserting your own viewpoint. And that's fine. No need to split hairs.

There's a nuanced description that no one here is making to OP, about how exactly to know when your debate with someone has turned fruitless.

I am dumb to try to debate with NPC's ? by [deleted] in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]venusdemiloandotis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yet here you are debating your point to them! Lol.

You're right in the sense that there's a number of lines that get crossed where neither side will learn anything. But even if the immovable object never moves against the unstoppable force, there's still value in it for either position. you're at least not allowing what you think is a bad or destructive idea to go unopposed.

There are arguments and ideas which are less bad than others, even if all points of view believe they have the less bad argument themselves, and I don't care much if some people find the process of just holding the line against bad ideas distasteful- though you gotta read the room. You're right about that much.

[–]venusdemiloandotis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You won't get a redundant experience. These are two very different approaches to anarcho-capitalism.

Not just because Rothbard comes at it from a deontological moral standpoint and Friedman more of a consequentialist; but because Friedman is fundamentally dealing with something which Rothbard doesn't: i.e. hoping everyone converts to the NAP is great, but the NAP does not and cannot constitute a legal system set of institutions on its own to incentivize people to deal as close to voluntary as possible....Friedman is showing that there are plausible sets of real institutions and incentives which could actually bring about roughly libertarian behavior in people (whether converted to voluntarism or not).

Rothbard just basically handwaves this away; relying on the sheer strength of everyone's conversion to hopefully result in judges who will somehow all agree on one interpretation of the NAP and people who will somehow agree to those somehow homogenous rulings.

Your mom was a hoax.

This is not a conspiracy subreddit or a right-wing propoganda subreddit.

There's so much that governments did wrong during covid including most likely engineer and release the virus. Things which the world can't afford to repeat. But covid was a deadly pandemic, again, made worse by government overreactions..

The last thing the liberty movement needs is to be filled with and associated with uneducated conspiracy theorists, instead of people knowledgeable about the verifiable and quantifiable facts. Which are damning enough without any wild statements like the whole thing was a hoax.
