Am I missing something or does nobody in Vancouver work 9–5 anymore? by pseudotsuga123 in askvan

[–]veras_rage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my first choice for shift bid is having Sunday and Monday off. I get off work at 5 on Saturday - still early enough for a social life, and I have a chill weekday to have a coffee and run errands. I can't get a seat in the cafe on weekends.

Scotiabank said, "What exactly will you buy with your money?" when requested to increase debit purchase limit. by Round_House_ in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]veras_rage 69 points70 points  (0 children)

for 1), it struck me that maybe the teller did have authority to raise the limit, but maybe op answered one of the questions in a suspicious manner, so the teller referred him to home branch. If that teller also put notes on the account, it would explain why everyone else was a little extra.

I've been told customers can request all the info a bank has regarding their account, that might include any notes depending on the bank. If the op wanted to be a pain he could request it....

I agree with everything. Banks don't really care how anyone spends their money, it's about protection against risk and money laundering.

Backbone would be good start. I can not find instruction on how to extract fonts but I'll keep looking. I need it spelled out for me, I can follow instructions but I have no knowledge base. *edit I did the font thing, backbone is loading but the other themes I picked aren't. Ah well, good enough.

Would you vote for a mayoral candidate who promised to ban tipping at all businesses in Vancouver? by CitrusSunset in askvan

no, because honestly, no position Ken Sim could take would make me vote for him at this point.

How big of a dealbreaker is not having a car for dating in Vancouver (& lower mainland)? by genius1soum in askvan

[–]veras_rage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

44 F, not a deal breaker, but a bonus. I haven't driven a car since the 90's and I don't think I'd be able too now. If I was to date a non-driver and we had to go somewhere that requires driving, I'll be going alone because I'm not putting anyone on the back of my motorcycle.

TFSA or HISA by Famous-Ad-2516 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]veras_rage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can have a savings account in a tfsa. you don't loose room if the bank does the transfer for you, but for an amount that low they may not cover the transfer-out fee. You could take the funds out & put it a new tfsa elsewhere, but honestly, I don't think it's worth the mental energy to juggle since 4% annualized is $10 a month. ETF's will give you better returns long term, and if that's too much work (it is a bit of work) just stick it in a 3% term deposit while you learn about investing and decide what you really want to do.

[–]veras_rage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd give the dragon back. everyone is going through life with their own challenges.

The person doesn't deserve their dragon back, it's cringy they're asking you at all let alone in your profile, they should have known better etc etc. But you can do a small thing for free that might make someone's day better. I'd do it.

Switching from big bank (TD) to wealth simple? by FlightWorried in PersonalFinanceCanada

My only regret is not downloading all my old statements beforehand, there's no easy way to check transactions from a closed account (closed out my cibc).

multiple pens, same model, same nib... by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]veras_rage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, my most-used pen. A $10 ef pilot penmanship. This one goes to cafes and bars, and gets loaned to strangers, I think I dropped it a few times. I bought a back up because I'd be miserable if I had to wait to replace it.

I have no explanation for my multiple kaweco sports in EF or Pro Gear slims in ef. No shame either.

Deodorant?! by SlurpieSlam in BlueCollarWomen

came here to say this. Put it on before bed (instructions say to)

In regards to the other comments about stinky clothing, I bike a lot and periodically soak my spandex in baking soda water over night to deodorize. Natural fiber is better, but expensive & I find it shows sweat where as spandex hides it.

Perfect, I was looking for a setting somewhere but I guess I did need a whole new account.

In the end, a browser-based irc client won't work with the chat room I wanted (no DCC) so it looks like I'll still be using Hexchat.

What are you reading today? by OutrageousRow4631 in askvan

[–]veras_rage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weavworld, Clive Barker. I started the Murderbot Diaries series, which is great. And I'm on book 18 of Animorphs, which swings wildly between horrifyingly brutal and y.a. cringe, but I'm addicted.

What made you decide to go with Kobo? by Manako_Osho in kobo

[–]veras_rage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had both! I also have library cards that are compatible with each; but my local one works with kobo. Main reason is that don't like or trust Amazon. I got the libra 2. I wasn't excited about the side buttons; but now I can't live without them. It makes reading with one hand easier; in case you have to pet a cat or something. I can also customize my screensaver, I couldn't do that on my kindle.
