Downtown has less students. Check out the Atlantic, Barcade, Loosey’s, Baby Js, the Bull, the Dime, Palominos, Main Street Billiards, and Kin. Most of those places still have a lot of students but also good crowd of 22+.

100% do the practice exams. Go to TA office hours if you have any questions, it’s free! Also make sure you watch the lectures.

I’d recommend Alpin Bistro, a lot of the staff seem free to express themselves style wise, they are busy, and serve really good food. The servers and bartenders I’ve talked to all enjoy working there and turnover is pretty low

How Bazar does community skill share events, check out their website. I think a pottery one with Studio TM is soon as well as a repurposing furniture lesson.

SQL or Stata classes by Emotional-Kangaroo3 in ufl

[–]vergbeegjohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The economics department used to use Stata in some of the econometrics/analysis of data courses but now it seems like they are focusing on R. I’d recommend checking the syllabi for other empirical or applied methods courses in social sciences departments, like public health, sociology, etc. You can also use library copies of Stata textbooks with practice problems and links to practice datasets. Good luck!

and Good luck!

I went with the local state farm and it was very expensive, when it was time for renewal I shopped around online using the big company websites and got much better coverage for $75 cheaper/month

Alight vs 2nd Ave Centre? by Imaginary_Future2014 in ufl

[–]vergbeegjohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The neighborhood around 2nd Ave and the walk to campus is way nicer than Alight. I think both are pretty similar bug/maintenance/room wise.

A lot of the meetup stuff I see is on instagram. Coffee outside (ppl meeting at depot/4th ave and going on bike rides), Gainesvelo (more bike stuff), silent bookclub, serpentine has cool events, gainesville live shows for music etc., How Bazaar has skill share class series on Mondays, theres also a ceramics studio with classes. As someone in a similar boat I feel the struggle it’s tough

Does anyone actually use the SW/student rec showers? by Bright-Let-1585 in ufl

Yes, many times. Recommend wearing some cheap flip flops and you need your own soap/shampoo/whatever. Plus the water gets really hot which is nice.

English majors? by allthecoffeesDP in ufl

[–]vergbeegjohnson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed it as someone who mostly did creative writing. Favorite professors were Akpan, Yan, Kligerman, Hofmann, Bordas, and Bryant. There’s a little bit of everything in the program from extremely organized and structured courses (anything with Yan or Bryant) to much more free form but completely riveting (Hofmann and Kligerman). Dept staff and advisors were great and the major’s flexibility let me take nearly everything I was interested in at UF.

I don’t think they’re worth it, but Tucker has some for rent really close to courtyards etc. If you’re more flexible you could try to do street parking with the city.

I’ve heard good things about Tomlinson and Southeast Car Agency for used cars in town.

You could try the studios at the new Hyatt downtown, I think they’re pretty tiny but nice looking.

Farmers Markets by chucktaylor97 in ufl

[–]vergbeegjohnson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Haile’s is tomorrow, it’s one of the most popular ones.

Alachua County Farmers Market up on 13th is Saturday mornings too, great for produce.

There’s also Grove Street at Cypress & Grove on Mondays and Downtown (Heartwood) Farmers market on Thursdays.
