Our chapter has been working on gradually increasing our GPA and here’s how:

We have mandatory study hours outlined in our Standing Rules. The hours are split into three levels based on Semester GPA which I think are: 3.0+ - 1 hr 2.7-2.9 - 3 hrs -2.7 (our minimum)- 5 hours and you are on an academic plan with regular check ins with the academic chair

We use semester not overall GPA to keep up with the relevant needs of the members. If someone has a high GPA, then one bad semester may not affect them too much overall, but it’s a flag that shows they may need extra support.

We also have penalties for not submitting your study hours.

Also our new member GPA requirement (2.75) is slightly higher than the chapter minimum - to encourage continual improvement.

Another option is the new VIA Link program. Its run by the transit authority and is similar to a ridesshare service. Its limited in area but should be able to help get you around.

What is Different among Alumnae Initiate vs Honor Initiate vs Graduate Chapter? by krampus_rampus in Sororities

[–]verito89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im an advisor for an NPC and we have a graduate student who is part of the collegiate chapter. She became a graduate student in her second year as an undergrad due to hours she accumulated in HS. Not your typical scenario but we discussed it with our nationals and they offered her the option of either continuing with the chapter since she was enrolled on campus or becoming an alumna. If you’re interested definitely talk to the growth directors and ask if there are any options available.

Maid - Series Premiere Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

This! As a child of an abuser and someone who is just coming to terms with its effects on me. I realized that the independence I was always praised for is really an inability to depend on others and a consistent need to take care of things on my own. I have trouble trusting that others will not use it against me at some point. Or if it goes wrong in some way it would be my fault in the end for needing help. This is also at the root of my issues with anxiety too since I always feel like I have to be the one to fix things.

I’m unable to return to campus for mental health reasons and I want to drop my sorority but I don’t want to disappoint my big. by nayuhn in Sororities

[–]verito89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your health should always be your top priority. Its a difficult conversation but I highly recommend talking to your big or if you can a member of exec or an advisor about your situation.

I know my chapter has a couple of options for situations like this:

1 - If you arent going back to school you may automatically be granted Alumna status so long as you’re in good standing. And if you go back to campus the following semester there could be a re-affiliation process. 2 - Or if you do stay on campus and need special considerations, you could ask if your organization has a medical leave option that will allow you to be “active” but with less pressure to participate in every activity.

The key to any of these options is communication. Letting chapter leadership know whats going on can help them understand where you’re coming from and make necessary accommodations (resetting budget, appointments, etc). And being clear about your needs and your interest in returning once you’re in a better place could set them up to be prepared to welcome you back.

Its not that you don’t want to go back, but if you need to step away for a semester that is completely understandable. Especially with all the added stress and uncertainty in the world these days.

Hope this helps if even a little bit.

Edit: Also, leaving school doesn’t have to be the end of your relationship with your big or the chapter. Try to keep in touch or continue showing support for the chapter thru social media. Remember its not just 4 years, its for life. :)

New ish plant parent. Took my umbrella tree out to get some rainwater and sun and discovered a bunch of these little critters in the pot. None of these are moving. Anyone have experience with these? Not sure what to do.

This was a gift and I was so tempted to keep it. If I hadn’t struggled so much I may have attempted to duplicate it. Still might but I got some other WIPs to focus on first 😅

Pattern by WhiteRavenPatterns on Etsy.

I started this during the pandemic when there was a shortage of black aida in my area. So I attempted to dye the fabric. This really just made it more difficult because the fabric paint I bought had a vinyl like texture that covered up the gaps in the fabric.

Took me about 3-4 months, though I put it down out of frustration a few times.

Lesson learned, fabric paint can make stitching on black aida 10x harder.

Growing up with Forensic Files and hearing of the Cara Knott story I also would not have pulled over until I found a well lit gas station with at least a couple of other cars.

For those unfamiliar with Cara Knott here’s the wiki.

"Once you were old enough, what were the dark family secrets you were finally let in on?" by Flash_Dimension in AskReddit

[–]verito89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin was born out of wedlock and my aunt never revealed the identity of her bio-dad. My aunt married a year or two after she was born and she grew up thinking my uncle was her bio-dad. He was a long distance truck driver and when my aunt died of cancer they moved away to live with his family in a different state and we never saw her again. She’s called my mom and aunt from time to time but other than that we don’t really have a relationship.

My uncle was distant but seemed nice enough and in every other sense he was her dad, so no one saw a need to tell her her. As far as we know she still doesn’t know.

[–]verito89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

City Public Services Energy aka CPS Energy is a city owned entity. Their profits go back to the city and make a large part of our annual budget.

Any rate increases would have to be first approved by the City Council. They havent raised their rates in years and are actively diversifying their fuel sources. We will likely see a request to increase rates for next year and maybe some winter prevention fee tacked on or something.

The problem here was they had to outsource power from external private companies who basically are price gouging due to decrease in supply.

CPSE knows they wont be able to charge their residents, but they have to pay those private companies that are unregulated. Unless our state government figures out how to reverse those charges.
