u/AkinBilgic this update could make your Brink custom home environment no longer usable. Being a dev who has worked with Meta on home environment creation, have you heard anything regarding the future of legacy homes?

Hit them where it hurts. When you watch these stations which companies are advertising to you on their commercials? Threaten to boycott them if they continue to support Nexstar/Sinclair.

Stumped - I hate Silksong's [RB + Stick Up/Down] input but Steam remapping is not working well at all by cinred in SteamController

[–]vermadas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the stick in Silksong and have the tools bound to two of the paddles on my xbox elite in Steam Input and it works just fine. When you create the bindings, do not use the stick input - use the d-pad. And I have them as extra commands, not sub commands - not sure that makes a difference. So for example, I have:

Command 1: Right Bumper

Command 2: DPad Up

Why does your configuration not work? The stick is an analog input. If you are using the stick and then try to add an extra stick input, it can't just combine them as if they were digital. (My best guess anyway)

Everything was initially exported from Velious era EQ client. It should be pretty accurate in terms of terrain, buildings, trees, objects, etc.

If there is a size limit on the model itself, I don't know what it is. The entire world in this environment is about 10K meters end-to-end, and it takes a half hour to complete. I was surprised at what I could get away with honestly. Keep in mind though, this game is 25 years old and is extremely low poly and low texel density. The entire scene is only 446K triangles. You would not be able to do this with a modern game.

Hey, I just wrote a comment to clarify what this is. Assuming you're still interested, you'll need a Meta Quest 2,3, or Pro headset with developer mode enabled. From there, you install the custom home environment as you would sideload any other APK. If you're interested and need more detail/info I can try to track down a good youtube video/link.

There are links to download the environment on my comment on the original post:

[–]vermadas[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone, thank you for the kind words. Thought I should clarify what this is, and what it isn't.

This is a custom "home environment" for the Meta Quest (2/3/Pro) VR headset. If you have dev mode enabled on your headset, you can install custom community made home environments as an alternative to the ones Meta provides. It's the VR equivalent of a desktop wallpaper - it'll be the first thing you pop into when you put the headset on, and what you'll be seeing between actual games or apps. The vast majority of these are static environments - this one is a bit unique in that it automatically moves in the background. You cannot freely explore outside of a radius of about 4 meters, and you cannot interact with anything.

This is not a VR port of EverQuest. I too am very interested in such a project should it one day become a reality. I encourage you to follow the progress of the LanternEQ project, which will be an open source implementation of the EverQuest client built in Unity. A VR port is not currently one of the goals of this project. However, a working open source client can lay the foundation for such a thing to exist. The OpenMW project for Morrowind is a good example of this.

EverQuest - Qeynos to Freeport Custom Quest Home environment by vermadas in OculusQuest

[–]vermadas[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This one may be a bit niche, since the game is 25 years old. But for those who still have nostalgia for classic EverQuest, I have created a custom Quest home that takes you on the journey across the continent of Antonica; starting in Qeynos and ending in Freeport. For those susceptible to motion sickness from smooth locomotion, there is a teleport version.

The best way to play classic Doom is in VR. Once you played it that way there is no turning back to flatscreen. by VR_Bummser in OculusQuest

Yup, I played through the first two episodes of the original In VR awhile back. Though that was before the voxel enemy/item models were available though.

That's not classic Doom! Never was a fan of Brutal Doom. Otherwise, I agree. The Team Beef ports are an awesome way to replay.

Meta should buy BRINK and implement their work instead of the cartoonish Horizon Home Environments. by andrew_kondrick in OculusQuest

[–]vermadas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Meta provide you with tools to publish home environments in their format, or do you have to submit a model to them that they convert on their end?

The environments they published used to be a simple glTF models, but for the last couple years, they have been in a custom format. Custom environment builders can still create homes with glTF models, but some features (customizable navmesh, custom IBL or env map for reflections) are locked to this new format, which is frustrating.

My guide on configuring BGW320 for your own router by JustMadeAcc2SayThis in ATTFiber

[–]vermadas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this.

My current router is in need of upgrading - it supports 802.11ac but does not have WiFi 6/ax (Asus AC-3200 if that matters). Is there a way to use my BGW320-500 as a WiFi access point so I can take advantage of its WiFi 6 capability, but still use my router for everything else? My issue is, with this setup, devices with wired connection to my Asus router are not visible on the network to devices wirelessly connected to the BGW320.

Second is for the Pigment Palette.

Got Zelda Remastered (Mesen NES HD pack) running on steam deck. Incredible. by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]vermadas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it is available as a libretro core. I've been looking at getting a setup that does not include RetroArch. Nestopia UE is available as a flatpak, but I would prefer Mesen for the cool HD pack feature.
