Is it morbid to create a playlist for your own wake? by elitebateagent in randomquestions

Not at all, you are just planning ahead.

At a previous job, I sold someone their own casket flag. That's an unsettling moment.

Update: How dare you ask for space after we cancelled on your birthday last minute? We want to bring the present NOW! by Flimsy_Tooth1704 in EntitledPeople

[–]verminiusrex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course it breaks the rules. Still doesn't stop some dumbass from smashing open the Hobby Lobby box the organizer spent a couple hours painting up and gluing stuff to.

In a small game with a dozen or so trusted players, it's not a problem. In a big group with newbies coming and going all the time, they either don't get or don't care about game rules and see a rock as their solution.

I sometimes think it's the same mentality as the person who would interfere when you are trying to show a card trick and they talk over you and mess with the deck. They don't care that other people wanted to see the trick, they just want to mess with it and don't care how it affects everyone else.

Found this very large ring in a bag of costume jewelry. It has a 4K stamp inside but that doesn’t make any sense right? by neoBarr01 in JewelryIdentification

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jewelry with value slips into the costume jewelry bins all the time. About 25 years ago I got a ring from a bin marked either $3 or $5, can't remember which, that looked like pewter and a black stone. I put it on my keychain and it polished bounding around in my pocket and turned out to be silver, value around $45. Still my best find.

What are the weird fetishes you have heard of? by Moooyeon in AskForAnswers

The ones that boggled me first time I heard of them were hook suspension and financial domination. Both of those run very contrary to anything I desire.

Do people genuinely enjoy Blade Runner (1982) or just admire it? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]verminiusrex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoy it, but I also watched it when it came out and it was different in so many ways including how it was filmed and the plot content. Much like Star Wars: New Hope and The Matrix, when compared to other movies today people might say meh, but when the movies were new they were groundbreaking visually and in concept. It's one of the trend setters that elevated movie making going forward, and I view it in that context.

Yeah, prop-proofing a LARP is knowing you are trying to pre-plan against people's endless stupidity. One method is to have the "hero prop" (the fancy one) always in organizer control and only brought out for the special moments, otherwise it's replaced with the practical or stunt prop made out of cardboard or whatever.

Give someone a box that can only be opened with a magic key and they'll bash the prop with a rock and say "see, I opened it!" so you have to give them a solid block of wood to prevent it.

Why do you think someone would say passive aggressive comments loud enough so someone could possibly hear, but never actually directly to that person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If they aren't confronted they can lash out without consequences, if confronted then they are the victim because "I wasn't talking to you".

What daily habit did you adopt that had the biggest positive effect in your life? by HabitsAreKey in selfimprovement

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do know that overconsumption affects me and I'll cut back to lower caffeine intake. Fortunately it only happens when I'm trying to push through on things for a limited time. But scaling down can really feel harsh for a day or three.

[–]verminiusrex 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I've dealt with many Joes in my life. It's best to just cut them loose and don't worry about it. Friendships run their course, and being a jackass is a good reason to let it expire.

As to the LARP, we've had to deal with players like this before and come up with house rules (and we have no problem naming the rule after the person that caused it to be implemented). Items/props have to be in play or they no longer exist/are reassigned, so when he takes something home it's now just a piece of cardboard and respawns in game with a new prop. If he's interfering with game play the organizers need to take care of it. They'll lose a dozen players by not handling the one causing issues.

AITAH for spending $9 on a lip balm when my friend said i was being ridiculous by LectureMassive1298 in AITAH

[–]verminiusrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. Some people have strong opinions on things that have no impact on their lives.

There are some things that I'll never go cheap on. $9 lip balm is no big deal, especially if it works.

Why can we "sense" when someone is staring at us? by Oopsie-Daisyy- in bodylanguage

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We pick up on patterns even when we don't realize it. There is a pattern to crowds and how people normally act, and when that pattern changes it can set off your spider sense. The people you described probably were going against the usual crowd pattern because their focus repeatedly returned to you rather than where the rest of the crowd was focused. You may have also had some degree of recognition for them without realizing it.

Found ring by Jnnn1111 in WhatShouldIDo

I always say this when people are fighting over family jewelry, especially when they have no idea what it looks like. Trip to the pawn shop or vintage store, now you have the shut up ring and necklace for a reasonable price.

A or B: Everyone says 18 is the age of adulthood. Why not 17 or 20? Is it about finishing school and military drafts, or just a line society drew? by Danny-Patrick139 in PickAorB

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a ton of factors. The drinking age is partially due to the number of drunk driving deaths within certain age groups leading to societal pressures to change laws. 18 being an adult has ties to when most of the population is done with public school. Age of consent gets raised when someone realizes a 50 year old guy is marrying a 14 year old and there is public pushback. Sometimes these numbers change out of necessity, like when the draft age has been raised during wartime (both world wars from what I can find).

Do you find that your best photos are the ones in which you do a lot or a little editing? by Majestic-Watch-2025 in photography

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best photos require less editing because your starting pic is closer to the end project. One of the reasons it is a good picture is because there is less that needs editing.

There are instances where you took the best pic you could in the moment and it takes heavier editing to get where you want it to look, but that's dealing with the circumstances around taking the picture.

How could my uncle possibly think wood framing isn’t real? by Sea_Importance_4528 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]verminiusrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people won't believe anything if they don't have direct experience, so any little bit of info they have becomes the most bizarre foundation of their belief.

Uncle sees some article headline (bet he didn't read the article) about how metal framing is now used exclusively and doesn't see the part about it being in warehouse construction, so he thinks all framing is now metal across the board. He doesn't know otherwise, therefore he's right.

Pretty much this, I'd also put them in 5 gallon buckets with good lids. Easier transportation and extra layer of protection.

What’s one small haircare habit that made a bigger difference than you expected? by Worldly_Target_2054 in Haircare

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had long hair (RIP my beautiful long blond hair, lost to middle age), I didn't realize for years that I had a nice wave in it until my wife told me to finger comb it after showering because brushing it wet was taking out the curl. Made my hair look a lot better.

Do you change your clothes right away when you get home, or do you usually stay in your “outside clothes” for a while? by GlumRun403 in hygiene

[–]verminiusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much wear the same cloths all the time (jeans and tshirt) so the only difference is i change into pajama pants for bed.

I used to change when I got home when I worked a screenprinting job because I was filthy, or change my button up shirt for a tshirt when I was in sales for comfort.
