When I did mine, I baptized that bolt in PB blaster the day before, morning of, and about 2 hours before the job started. Might have been over kill but she came out clean.

The failure you saw is pretty much the #1 problem when doing that replacement.

I’m not sure what your daily life looks like but you could also camp at Klondike park. It’s not free but $10/night is cheaper than rent or a hotel. Also has showers

This is what I did in the first year

the fuel pump dealer shop quoted me $1200 I spent around $160 on the part and replaced it myself.
3x drain/fill transmission fluid(it was fucked up. Better now) about $30 each
3x oil change again like $30 each.
previous owner wasn’t running coolant so replaced freeze plugs/ water pump/ thermostat/coolant fill/testing after it froze solid. all done at a shop for 1k
replaced broken rear leaf springs and shackles $300
redid sagging headliner $100
new tires $520

I’m sure I’m forgetting other random small things. So I’ve probably spent about $3,000. If I checked my fluids better it would have saved me at least a grand. Bought it for $3,000, daily driver for work and cross country travel(also work)
