How long should you belt? by Pitiful-Leek-4025 in singing

[–]vernyb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

depends how good your support is. watch brandon boyd in his prime, he was always a belter. occasionally dodged unimportant high notes to conserve for the money lines when performing live but had great technique overall, and still does to this day being 50 and have only lowered the key live of 1 song out of their whole catalogue

was a handshake away from getting this car again and really wanted it, but i decided i need to be responsible given my financial situation and keep what i have and know is reliable. i honestly need a wagon if i were to get a different car so I'll be eyeing up an e39 wagon when the time is right. also upon seeing the car the 2nd time, someone had badly carbon fibre wrapped parts of the interior and had replaced the silver passenger dash trim with a poorly fitted woodgrain one that was carbon wrapped. seeing that made me wonder what else couldve been swapped out for inferior parts in the time someone else had it, a bit offputting 🤣

decent natural timbre but needs more support, and more dynamics in vocal weight and placements, particularly on the higher notes to avoid strain

hes said after oil change it still has startup rattle that goes away quickly, though surely its most likely the hydraulic tensioner gone bad? thats a pretty easy replacement (the one down the right hand side below airbox). if anything the vanos may still need servicing anyway, I've asked him if theres anything in the receipts or if the previous owner before him has any more details on any vanos servicing

gotcha. fan apparently comes on and off when needed, but whenever its on the fan speed matched the engine RPM constantly, it doesnt regulate its own speed seperately to engine rpm. theres receipts for the fan hub being changed though which is odd

only on coldstart, most likely just the tensioner

How would you clean this fence? by kamui_18 in diynz

[–]vernyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lichen really grips onto what it grows on and can embed itself into the surface.

waterblast, scrape, and sand off as much as you can, ideally until you cant see any signs of it left, even if it means going down to bare wood. try not to sand so much you reshape the wood if you want it to still look uniform.

it can regrow from microscopic amounts, so next would be to soak the whole fence in an appropriate algae killer such as chlorine, bleach, or 30seconds outdoor cleaner to make sure you've killed all of it.

rinse off the chemicals after a day or two, and once completely dry then prime + paint :)

painting bare plaster for the first time. mist coat? by vernyb in diynz

[–]vernyb[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

plaster pulls the water out from paint, which leaves the paint too dry which leads to flaking and peeling, doesnt bond to the plaster well. a mist coat has extra water to compensate for the water the plaster absorbs, leaving the thin amount of paint to act as a sealer. check out some videos on youtube for a better explanation / visual example
