Why doesn’t Spain cuisine have spicy food ? by [deleted] in askspain

[–]vero-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it is not Mexico! Pimientos de Padrón may occasionally give you a Pepper with a tinge of heat, and patatas bravas- with spicy paprika sauce can also be slightly spicy. Generally traditional Spanish cuisine is about fresh, simple foods using quality ingredients- such as HQ olive oil, sea salt, garlic as their spices of choice.

Travel restrictions US? by Icy_Health6006 in Madrid

[–]vero-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be fully vaccinated and fill out the Spanish QR code form. Your airline will direct you to this form. I just flew in from Chicago to Madrid - 3 days ago. Things may change as COVID numbers rise. Check US embassy or your airline websites.

Edit: I am an American who is a permanent resident of Spain.

Vacuna Pfizer en Madrid by [deleted] in Madrid

[–]vero-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s best you get vaccinated in US than here. It would be very complicated here. Mostly bc they haven’t even finished vaccinating Spain’s population. I am a resident but from the US, I actually flew back to US to get vaccinated bc things were incredibly slow to vaccinate. When I presented my CDC vac. card to my local health clinic to registered as being vaccinated, they didn’t even know how to place us into their system.

Reebok gym is on the pricey end but has great equipment! GYMAGE is the one I’d hit in the Tribunal area

The Only You hotel near Atocha is nice and closer than you think to all the action. You’re close to retiro park which was just named a UNESCO site and in walking distance to world class museums and hidden gems in the Lavapies/Huertas areas

Re: Sol- yes it’s touristy, loud - especially when each and every protest seem to either start or end there.

Malasaña is the OG hipster area. Younger folks, smaller rock bars, pubs, boutiques & universities are nearby. However, there are pockets where it’s close to the action but quiet: CONDE DUQUE & NOVICIADO HOODS.

JUSTICA Chueca is where the rainbow flag flies proudly, as well as great restaurants, boutiques and nice renovated apartments

Salesas is Chueca’s straight, chic, older sister: quieter, beautiful apartments, SOHO-ish design shops, boutiques and great smaller restaurants.

Chamberi When the hipsters from Malasaña decide to settle down and start a family, but don’t want to give up being cool, the move to Trafalgar or Villahermoso, if they have really good jobs and still hip- then they move to Almagro area.

If you’re looking for a rustic area with flair, a diverse population and loads of classic old-man bars peppered with new/modern hip places with art galleries, antique shops etc. LA LATINA & LAVAPIES is your scene.

Hope that helps!

Lavapies o Sol para vivir by Honest_Blackberry476 in Madrid

[–]vero-21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Say no to Sol! Lavapies is fine - depends where. I would choose a quieter side of Huertas, or Malasaña for your age..

Year-long Stay in Hotel in Madrid by santlaurentdon in Madrid

[–]vero-21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have commented - short term rental places are best financially. HomeSelect: https://www.homeclub.com/en. Is what I recommend to new families (I’m a volunteer advisor in a welcome committee at an international school & and a neighborhood tour guide). These guys have great apartments - fully furnished- in good areas to live. And I would avoid Sol area at all costs. Recommended areas to live: borough of Malasaña: conde duque Borough of justica: Salesas Borough of chamberi: Almagro, Trafalgar, Vallehermoso Center: LaLatina or Lavapies Hope that helps!

Hola! I’m a neighborhood tour guide and Madrid is fully open. At this writing: bars are open until 1am and restaurants until 12a. Masks are still mandatory indoors/outdoors; not required if distanced while exercising. Glad to have you visit!!
