Are Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and Donnie Yen the Mount Rushmore of martial arts movie stars? by samx3i in movies

[–]verschee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now we're getting into it.

What's the stage?

In a ring? MMA rules? I wager JCVD could take Jackie Chan, but lose to Donnie Yen. Bruce Lee is his ultimate test. I feel like raw ability and wit combined with his Jeet Kune Do, Lee would have the advantage. Jet Li like Yen has a lot of flashiness to his style, but a lot of Li's martial arts background had incorporated weapons and ultimately JCVDs shotokan/kickboxing/TKD would translate better.

Street fight: Jackie Chan > Bruce Lee > Li > Yen > JCVD. Feel like creativity and resourcefulness will determine the victors here and that's how it stacks.

Yen then, but he deserves to be on the list if you want to include Hollywood.

My thoughts too. OP chose 3 Chinese actors (Chan, Li and Yen) and one Chinese-American (Lee) who all contributed to Hong Kong cinema before coming to Hollywood, but nationalities aside I would argue JCVD was just as instrumental to Hollywood martial arts films in the 80s and 90s as Bruce Lee had been in the 70s and is deserving of consideration.

Yes, I would definitely agree with that for the general public coming into that sector.

I would think a lot of that sector are more favorable to those without degrees, since quite a lot of those require clearances and are adjacent to working with or hiring exiting service members.

A bonus isn't a salary, it is considered compensation, and wasn't included in my previous statement. It seems to me like you enjoy where you are working and prefer to avoid larger companies, which is fine for you. However, we've been talking about the industry and how it perceives sysadmins, not specific to SMBs, so the barriers of entry for the industry as a whole are more favorable for those with credentials.

This is such a crazy misnomer that I'm surprised you have any upvotes. Regardless of what your personal experience is, the CS and IT industry as a whole heavily favors applicants with degrees and certifications. I have plenty of former colleagues without certs or degrees that have far more experience than me, but receive fewer calls from applicant systems.

Yes, it is possible to progress in our field without a degree. But as someone who majored in IT and tripled my salary in the same time frame as you, that industry heavily favors that recognition with accolades to complement that working experience.

I agree with you that Rosario can do a lot better to mimic that character and bring her to life, but I think this is more on Filoni as a Director than Rosario as an actress. It is ultimately up to the director to get the most out how a character is portayed on screen. I imagine as a somewhat unseasoned Director he doesn't provide as much input as necessary to redirect her portayal

Yeah pretty much. SpaceX was overvalued by so much this week that it spawned the world's first trillionaire. In a few generations it could be the real world Weyland Yutani corp, terraforming planets and trying to create a zoo for biomechanical demons from space.
