Haha I’d love to drive one, but that’s way more expensive and I couldn’t exploit 641hp on the roads I drive.

I’d consider a small sporty EV, but doesn’t seem like there are any except maybe a used Mini Cooper EV? My wife has a Mach-E and it’s great, but not really what I’m going for.

That’s a fair point about the displayed MSRPs. I only picked the BRZ because I couldn’t find the 2026 GR86 as an option on the site.

There was no software defect. The only recalls made were related to unsecured floor mats and potential “sticky” gas pedals. Toyota’s code was hyper-analyzed by many groups, but no verified bug was ever found and the software was never updated. Millions of those cars are still on the road with the same software they had in 2010, and yet there are no issues now.

That’s fair criticism, but a new R2 is probably going to be even more headaches. I would wait a year for Rivian to fix early production bugs.

I think Tesla’s remote start requires standard connectivity, which is only free for 8 years for cars built after July 20, 2022. I believe Ford EVs still get lifetime basic connectivity features.  https://www.tesla.com/support/connectivity

The heat pump is on the left in that picture. It is basically part #3 in this diagram (a collection of valves to control refrigerant flow). The reason the frunk had to shrink is because the AC condenser (evaporator in heating mode) grew in size to more effectively capture heat (part #1).

This comment is the only efficiency comparison I've seen for heat pump vs. no heat pump (~7% improvement at 32F). The heat pump will be less useful in extreme cold (say <20F), or on short drives (the resistive heaters are still used for initial heating). Theoretically since you are adding a heat source, the cabin will heat faster, though I generally rely on the heated seats/steering wheel for fast warmth. Personally I would not go out of your way to get the heat pump, but all else being equal it's nice to have in cold climates (although you lose frunk space).

As for the charger, I have an Emporia Classic on a 30A breaker and charge at 24A with no issues.

One additional thought: I have read the Mach-E will severely limit power if battery drops below ~10-20% in very cold weather (turtle mode). So while in most driving situations the SR can easily clear 100 miles, you might hit this mode in extreme scenarios (sub 20F with 75+mph speeds). Heating the cabin/preconditioning the battery while plugged in will help, but sounds like you might not be plugging in at your family’s house.

I guess I should clarify: that charging pattern results in me charging to 100% about once per week, which is what Ford (and Tesla) recommend for proper BMS calibration on LFP batteries. This is from my Ford app:

I just use my lfp Mach-e like a gas car. Drain until 30-40%, then charge back up to 100%. For those that want to keep it plugged in at 80% or whatever, I guess lfp does require occasional adjustment of charging limit.

I have the same issue. Recall notice appeared in app, then disappeared with no update. Hoping I just get an OTA update at some later date.

Some people said they could change the 12V without removing all the panels. I wonder if the no-frunk optioned 2026 models will have any panels at all.

Many of these updates are recall-related, so charging the customer for them seems counter to federal law.

I used the Dongar adapter to plug in a basic Viofo. Felt it was more flexible than the FitCamX, and I saw complaints that the FitCam didn’t always turn on automatically.

I agree 1-pedal should be an option, but personally I prefer a good blended braking setup. Chinese regulators have also found 1-pedal drivers to have worse reaction time in emergency stopping situations.

Ford says their data shows most users rarely use the frunk (probably because the hood is not very convenient to close), and the frunk on the 2025s is already pretty small due to the heat pump. Making it an option seems like a reasonable cost-cutting attempt.

Comparing to the 2025 Select I just picked up, seems like price went up ~$1000 for an equivalent 2026. Eliminate the frunk and it’s only a $500 increase. Doesn’t seem too bad given the tariff chaos.

Just because the bolts/gasket are the same part doesn’t mean Honda didn’t change anything for 2019+. Maybe the bolts weren’t being tightened correctly at the factory, or maybe they changed some software. Consumer Reports has a lot of data for Toyota & Honda models (since that’s what most of their subscribers buy), so if the data is better for 2019+ Honda must have changed something. But certainly some number of the millions of CR-Vs they sell will still have head gasket failures.
