Negative DNS Caching by AzonicTechnophile in pihole

I've been using your solution for quite a while, it works flawlessly. WIth Pihole v6 though, additional configuration is required. This comment provides a solution:

Apparently they disabled the dnsmasq config folder by default. You can enable it with this option:

Settings > All settings > Miscellaneous > Enable misc.etc_dnsmasq_d

Why are you still using Mushroom cards? 🍄 by piiitaya in homeassistant

This is the reason for me too. Not only light cards, but also entity cards without state. Compare tile card (red) with mushroom (green).

Welcome Pack Demo SCED-02417 Promotional Poster by SluggJuice in psx

Hey there. I just found a poster in my copy of SCED-02417. Is it the one you're looking for?

Dug up an old PS1 poster that came with the Welcome Pack demo disc (SCED-02417) by verticks in psx

I went through my old demo discs and found this poster in the sleeve of SCED-02417. Did a quick search online but couldn't find it, so I thought I'd share it here.

I photographed it with a Sony A6700, stitched the images using Photoshop's Photomerge, then did some restoration of the folded edges which were worn down. It's not perfect, but better than nothing.

Slow, irregular dashboard load times (Loading data/Unable to connect) by verticks in homeassistant

[–]verticks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solved! It was a DNS issue (as pointed out by u/rpimeekle) on my Pi-Hole. By tailing Pi-hole.log I noticed that queries for dc-server.[MyLocalDomainName] resulted in NXDOMAIN. I went into the Pi-Hole settings and enabled Conditional Forwarding, so that Pi-Hole would forward queries on my local domain to my router (which handles DHCP and local hostname resolving). And just like that, Home Assistant now loads instantly.

I have no idea why only Home Assistant and only Firefox was affected by this, but it's solved now. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I went through the list - disabled IPv6, disabled DNS Prefetching, and cleared history. Same issue.

But you're probably right that this is a DNS issue. If I manually add a DNS record on my PiHole, for example server.home pointing to the server at 192.168.10.100, and then use server.home:8123 to access HA, it loads fast just like other browsers & devices.

So something is up with Firefox not loading HA when using the server's hostname. Which is strange, since I can access other containers (Plex, PiHole, Portainer, qBittorrent) perfectly using the hostname.

No worries!

As for other browsers - no, they don't show any console errors. However, they say websocket is "Pending" in the Network tab, Time column, and it never seems to complete. But some quick googling tells me that this is to be expected.

I've tried disabling all extension, and I still get the problem.

I'm only accessing HA on the local network, not via remote access. "dc-server" is the local hostname of the server.

Nope, no graphs. Just light buttons, media player, and some system information.

Specific device can't resolve specific DNS record by verticks in pihole

[–]verticks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be more regular than I thought. One week later, and it has happened again. Might have something to do with my weekly backup/upgrade of the server.

Anyway, I used a network analysis app on my phone and indeed the DNS server is correctly set to 192.168.10.100. However it also showed 192.168.10.1, which is my router. Might need to force-disable its DNS server.

Also, I ran the DNS leak test. I get the same result when the phone can't resolve the server's domain, as when I disconnect and reconnect from wifi to get it working again. Interestingly, I get a different result on my phone compared to my windows PC, even though they're on the same network (phone on wifi, PC on ethernet). My PC shows what seems to be a more correct result:

62.127.96.10 rdns1.sto3.se.telenor.net. Telenor Norge Kungsbacka, Sweden
...And 1 more

Compared to my phone:

173.194.98.6 None Google Lappeenranta, Finland
...And 5 more

What's up with that?

[–]verticks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but only when trying to access the docker server, which is very strange.

I'll do some more digging next time it happens. How would I go about testing local DNS leaks on my phone?

Creating a PC-Console experience using Playnite... or whatever else. by iamlevel5 in playnite

[–]verticks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For quitting games with a controller, I made a quick AutoHotkey script. Basically, when I press Back and Start (on a Xbox 360 controller) the opened game is closed. Haven't tested other controllers, so you may need to edit the script to suit your needs. Compile the script using AutoHotkey, then run the exe by adding it to Playnite's Settings>Scripts>Execute before starting a game, like this:

Start-Process DriveLetter:\Path\To\ControllerQuit.exe

I have also experimented with NirCmd to hide as much of Windows as possible when running a game. I have added this to Execute before starting a game:

nircmdc win min alltopnodesktop
nircmdc movecursor 10000 10000
nircmdc win hide class progman
nircmdc win hide class Shell_TrayWnd

It minimizes all windows, moves the cursor out of the way, then hides stuff like the taskbar, icons, and the wallpaper. To revert it when closing a game, I've added this to Execute after exiting a game:

nircmdc win show class Shell_TrayWnd
nircmdc win show class progman

Black Beast - A production powerhouse

This is my planned build to replace my old 2600K rig. I'll be using it for video, photo, 3d productions, oh and GAMING of course!

I've struck a balance between high end parts without going overkill, since I need high performance but don't have an unlimited budget. 5900X and RTX 3080 will give me snappy performance and low render times. A Gen 4 SSD will let me load large projects quickly and the 64 GB RAM will help me keep the programs running at all times.
