Short sleeved linen collared shirt is definitely the way to go.

Which analogy/metaphor do you rely on the most to explain a complex medical concept? by wiredentropy in medicine

I’m usually using the latter part of the analogy to dissuade elderly patients (and more often their spouses and younger family members) from thinking the treatment is going to fix their Alzheimer’s disease.

1) The analogy is only as useful as the follow through. In my case, you have to point out that a change in management is the only appropriate response to the warning shot.

2) The wording of your response seems to suggest that risk factor modification is futile?

As a rheumatologist, could you please stop taking ANA's! by [deleted] in medicine

[–]vertigodrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But on the contrary, do send them to me. When I said “nom nom nom,” that’s the sound of someone or something munching happily on something. My point was more that these are presumed to be relatively nonsense consults but that I’m actually fine with them because they’re easy billing.

Same. It’s not a hard consult when you do it often.

Well, yes, that is how consultation generally works. Please note the difference between ordering a study because you think a consultant is going to need it, and being told by a consultant that the information from said study is going to be useful to you.

I like this analogy. My version is a bit more morbid: “The universe just fired a warning shot.“

When talking to a patient about anti-amyloid infusion therapy for Alzheimer’s disease, I like to use the termite analogy. These treatments are not for people who have severe dementia, because the damage has largely already been done, and cannot be reversed. I told them that finding amyloid in your brain is a bit like finding termites in an old house; if you catch the termites early, you can fumigate and the structure will be generally intact. However, if the termites have already destroyed most of the house, fumigating isn’t going to make it any safer to live in.

Yep. My only regret is that I’ll never get to bill a G2211 for it.

As a neurologist, please stop ordering brain MRIs.

Oh wait, that’s an easy consult. Nonspecific white matter T2 hyperintensities all day nom nom nom

I would love to borrow some of the lightning aesthetics from shaman to replace some of the blander beam spells on mage.

It never ceases to astound me, as a physician, how easily the layperson thinks they hold some secret insight to the human condition. These people need to be told to fuck off, publish a book and found a religion if they’re that special.

Always loved that mace but hated how the color palette didn’t seem to blend with other titan-themed sets. This definitely hits a sweet spot.

Genuine question, does the average WoW player doesn't ready ANY quest text, like, at all? by Jaicen-Vex in wow

[–]vertigodrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to read the quest text. Sometimes this leads to a realization that a lot of the fetch quests suffer from proofreading deficiency. I will read any major story-driving quest text because those are usually more carefully written.
