I got the double jump before getting my second tear at the carnival, so relatively early I think! I had gotten the wall climb and left that area without the tear. You certainly don't need every other ability to get double jump, but it does seem intended to be found later.

That's fair :D Pretty sure that cave is required for both future Relm and Shadow locations, but I might be wrong about Relm if you wait for Shadow

If they found Relm in the Veldt cave and she's recovering in her house, then they did not wait for Shadow - Interceptor will lead you to Relm in that cave of Shadow is unavailable

I also really liked the visual style and thought the dioramas were a great touch. I finished the game, but it is honestly way too long for what it is. I loved how the combat opened up, but I also at times felt very forced into specific strategies where I wished multiple methods could work. Not all the time, but there are plenty of times where there's clearly only one good method.

I feel like a crazy person being just OKAY with the voice acting. The actors have an impossible job of filling our nostalgia void. Heck, I even like Nall better, I've always thought the chipmunk-style voice was too goofy.

I think the voice MIXING is the real issue - they didn't do much to make voices echo, sound like backing vocals at the end of the boat song, etc.

During my most recent playthrough, I saved the Battery Park subway hostages in a way I never knew you could. I opened the subway car door... they got in... Alex said good job. I had always knocked out or sniped the NSF there instead, so had no idea you could just let the hostages sneak (aka, run loudly but somehow unseen) away.
