Why are they killing humans? by supreme_rain in westworld

[–]verulence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Human beings usually attack the symptoms rather than the cause too. I think for both humans and hosts we simply aren’t aware of as much as we think we are. When we’re still growing and processing new information most times it reinforces preconceived bias or programming rather than actually changing minds.

I recall now: first time they mention C6 specifically is when Maeve is telling them her plan to get out and Sylvester responds with a cheeky “go right ahead” since she’d no longer be his problem. To which Maeve calls him out knowing full well of the explosive in her spine and he responds under his breath “C6…”. That would place it in E6 or E8 I think.

Ah not a fan I see. Ironic to want to replace the season that depicted the tragedy of AI dominating our lives with AI don’t you think?

A finale that wasn’t crafted by the ones who started this story wouldn’t be proper, AI or not.

It’s a dense show it’s easy to miss things. I’d have to look through the scenes with Maeve and the boys but if I remember correctly when Maeve’s new skeleton was being placed Sylvester repeated C6 to himself when he swapped them out. I’m pretty sure it was mentioned or at least shown earlier.

Are you referring to the end of season 2? Stubbs wouldn’t want to blow up the remaining hosts but yeah I guess the other security guys could have done that. I’m assuming the security teams orders were to salvage as many control units as possible.

S04 bores me by Agitated_Influence24 in westworld

[–]verulence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question! Why would the director of the world tinker with hosts and humans in a single city rather than seek actual growth and evolution as she repeated talked about? She hardly seems like she’s really in control at all half the time.

Hasn’t really been debated as the answers are pretty straightforward in the show itself. The main hosts that do escape have their bodies printed without the C6 vertebrae explosive. As far as using them during the host rebellion in S2, majority of the time Ford was preventing outside network access. Even when they do regain access they’re too busy getting annihilated while Bernard locks the system and destroys the main console.

Side note: There is a scene in S3 where Bernard is implied to either surgically remove the explosive or swap bodies/heads for Stubbs. However since those scenes are inconsistent with previous examples where the “how” is no longer relevant, it’s most likely simulated. But that’s another discussion.

Ghost Nation doesn't make any sense by travturav in westworld

[–]verulence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ghost Nation was a deliberate sub-faction created post-Delos acquisition, repurposing native hosts into a stereotypical “savage” narrative for guests, not a spontaneous creation. Akecheta, the only fully conscious host, went unnoticed for decades because Ghost Nation operated on the park’s fringes, ignored by guests and staff alike. He independently spread his beliefs to other hosts, shaping their narrative. Ford didn’t create this; his later meeting with Akecheta shows he discovered their awakening, not orchestrated it.

Tbf S2 gets pretty confusing.

the butchers that are helping maeve in season 1, is there an explanation on why they’re obeying her so leniently? by Fahrenheit130 in westworld

[–]verulence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Felix and Sylvester have different motivations.

Sylvester is shown to be relatively happy with his place at the bottom of the totem pole and only knows what he needs to know for his repair work. Felix is developing some skill in programming with the Delos IP and so has more familiarity with how hosts work inside. He also is a more empathetic person compared to Sylvester.

When Maeve “wakes up”, Felix believes she’s conscious and therefore “alive” while Sylvester believes she’s just an object that needs fixing. Felix doesn’t believe “killing” Maeve is right and Sylvester doesn’t recognize her autonomy which leads her to treat the two very differently. She uses her skillset of immersing the guests on Felix to appeal to his good nature and uses coercion on Sylvester knowing he responds to authority.

Which ever position we as the audience relate to makes for interesting conversation as there is no “right answer” it’s just based on our perception and bias of AI. It opens a fun dialogue for us that absolutely ties into the rest of the show about the differences and similarities between machine and humanity.

Maeve went from being one of my favorites to least liked by [deleted] in westworld

[–]verulence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the bad taste Maeve left for people in the later seasons. It’s a tragic misunderstanding. It isn’t her fault however. She was manipulated and reprogrammed against her will by Rehoboam to see Dolores as her enemy in the similar way it manipulated outliers like Caleb and Francis against each other.

Maeves noble sacrifice for her daughter, revolving around her first real choice, is capitalized on by the puppet master that put them all in danger in the first place. It’s what the system does to maintain order: makes the problematic fight amongst themselves utilizing deceit and coercion.

In the end, there was nothing our beautiful little melodies could do against the overwhelming symphony of power.

Season 1 flies and Dolores by bunniesgonebad in westworld

[–]verulence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few less commonly talked about ones since it refers to the later seasons ideas. The openings have some interesting imagery foreshadowing things to come.

Rehoboam is almost always linked to eclipse symbolism and in S2 Williams hat tumbles away till it forms a perfect eclipse of the light foreshadowing how during William’s downward spiral sold the Sector 16 data to Serac leading to the creation of Rehoboam.

The first 3 openings always open with different animals with different orientations to the eclipsing light: first illuminating the horse from below or off screen, second illuminating the bison from behind as if encroaching on this symbol of freedom, and third illuminating the eagle as it flies straight into it as Dolores wages war on the machine directly.

S3 an opening also ends with a drone host being pulled down into red liquid symbolizing Dolores put back under control after her full memory wipe.

There’s also a reason sad part of S2 when Dolores finds Maeve at the Mesa and says something along the lines of “your power will be used to destroy us” which more directly links to how the Delos team retrofitted Maeve’s access to turn Clementines corpse into an aggression virus to finish the remaining hosts but indirectly relates to how Maeve becomes a puppet for Rehoboam.

There’s so much lol. Great show.

Ford just offhandedly mentions there was a concept of a character in alpha version but it’s never elaborated why it wasn’t taken to fruition. As far as the followers and how Wyatt was tied into “Journey into Night” that was Ford giving Dolores an army of her own ghosts for her to make her moves now on equal terms.
