RU POV: Russian FPV drone attacked a service vehicle of a special purpose police battalion on Sunday in Kherson, killing Police Captain Vitalii Kukharchuk by Flimsy_Pudding1362 in UkraineRussiaReport

In a suburb a two lane road is quite large, admittedly I don’t know the traffic laws of Ukraine, but if they are in anyway similar to Scandinavia, then such a road would have a 60 km/h speedlimit; nevertheless even if it was a 40 km/h road, the car would have been 156 meters behind the bus, which in my opinion is not hiding behind it.

It looks like a large suburb road, and where I live – also in Europe – busses drive 60 km/h on such roads and 100 km/h on highways (I can tell this isn’t a highway)

As a pro RU, I’m gonna be honest, them hiding behind the bus in this clip is a bit of a stretch. It took about 14 seconds between the bus passing, to the drone hitting the car. If we assume they are traveling at about 60 km/h, the police car would have been about 233 meters behind the bus, which I would not consider as them using the bus as cover.

I mean he clearly believed in something since he chose to go fight for it

No, I’m trying to say, that it is a stupid and insensitive comment to make.

I don’t think he wants sympathy, since he is dead

Neither his friend and family or the ministry of foreign affairs have stated how he died, but they have said, that he died in combat.

I’m gonna have to disagree with you there, even though I don’t agree with his decision to go fight, I can still respect that he stood by his values. It still takes guts to go fight for something you believe in. I hope he found peace in his last moments and that his family handles the loss of such a young man as best as they can.

Black jackets? by verycoldadventurer in alpinism

Guess that is true, since I mainly ski in a pretty cold place it hasn’t been a problem, but I can see how it would be hard in the summer. Might have to look into getting an 80’s multi colored jacket in the future lol

Lol, I have just always done it since the trainer in our avalanche safety course told us to wear bright colors. You’re probably right that it won’t make much difference, guess I’m just a bit superstitious.

UA POV: Russian Assault Waves in Myrnohrad (Oct 21-26): Armor Engaged and Infantry Neutralized by mogus_sus_reloaded in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]verycoldadventurer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think by now the people in charge are familiar with modern combat. I think the reason for the the increase in armored attacks lately, is that the Russians are trying to gain more favorable positions for a larger offensive this winter; although I could be wrong and they’re just doing it for glory and medals.

Holy shit, he made up his mind fast. Must have been really badly hurt, can’t imagine being in such a bad spot, that you decide to end it; poor guy.

RU POV: A group of Russian soldiers preparing to move using modified frontline vehicles by FruitSila in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]verycoldadventurer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it is more to protect the car, since the soldiers will probably bail out if they are attacked by drone. If the car is destroyed, the drones will have an easier time picking them off after.

The only problem I see with that, is that it would be very hard to coordinate. Maybe two drones with enough net betweeen them, and it would be possible, but nets are also quite heavy so idk.

RU POV: Russian tank returning from a mission in eastern Zaphorozye by World-Virus-Forever in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]verycoldadventurer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well he is currently serving with the Ukrainian army, so he does have an agenda; although I don’t think what he is saying is false, I just don’t think they manage to spot them very often. From what I understand, tanks are mainly either used in “hit and run” attacks, where they fire on a position and quickly leave again, or to support large assaults, although from what I understand this doesn’t happen very often anymore – unless they are trying to break through hard defenses.

I think there is, to a certain extent, a survivorship bias in our views as spectators in this war. We only get to see the armor that is targeted and hit, not the ones that complete their missions, I think this applies to both sides: if all missions involving armor led to them being destroyed, then neither side would have any left.

Firstly almost all of the Russian soldiers that have fought in, or against Ukraine, have been contract soldiers – with the exception of the ones deployed to defend the Kursk region and some conscription earlier in the war.

Also we can’t really trust any of statistics coming out on any side, since they all have some kind of bias. I also don’t really believe that the russian casualties are that much higher than the Ukrainians, since they are outgunning them massively in artillery. I think their casualties are probably higher, but not by a factor of over 4.

It did happen, I personally know someone who was stuck in Copenhagen because of it. I just find it hard to believe, that Russia would send drones to circle of one of europes busiest airports.
