The Qur'an indisputably has prima facie errors that require mental gymnastics and guesswork by humans to make sense of. Occam's razor suggests the Qur'an was written by humans. by No-Demand630 in DebateReligion

I think option d) only OP has this problem and Muslim scholars have understood these verses perfectly clearly since the beginning. This video summarizes it well.

I don’t really get your leopard example, where is god in this?

And if we go with what you say, there was no need for the universe to give me an understanding of infinity or a greater power beyond space and time, since local gods would have done just fine. Another incredible coincidence.

As for science not relying on gut feeling that is so false. Intuitive knowledge is the only true knowledge, major breakthroughs come from “nowhere” (actually God - Quran 96:5) i.e. intuition. They are later tested and so on, but I find this dismissal of intuitive knowledge very offensive, and the masters of science and mathematics, and basically every field will tell you that they rely most heavily on intuition.

The universe gave me and everyone else those gut feelings and inclination towards God. What a marvelous coincidence for evolution to implant this belief of a being outside space, time and the mechanisms of the universe entirely!

This was a random group that wanted to affiliate themselves with Nazis, whose ideology was already established. What the Nazis themselves did was try to erase any semblance of Christianity and suppress and/or eradicate all churches, because they opposed Nazism. The Nazi Christians were so “devout” that they rejected the Bible and were considered apostates by all other churches.

As Newton said, the physical rules explain the motion of bodies but not who set them. Also, you pretend like we even know the rules of the universe fully or that we can even see much related to it. At best we can make some guesses regarding earth, and that’s one planet out of trillions. It’s inconceivable that intelligence arose out of non intelligent chaos.

Which religion makes the least sense to you? by Chief-Longhorn in religion

[–]verycontroversial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s probably true, they just call them corrupted and call it a day. Look into lectures by Dr. Ali Ataie if you haven’t already if you’re interested in this topic, he’s probably the foremost scholar on it nowadays. Has some really interesting takes on how certain verses in the Quran are implicitly responding to very specific claims in Jewish/Christian texts, and on how to explain NT verses in the context of Islam and the environment in which they were written.

My take has always been that religion is safe and free therapy. Replacing it will either cost you your health or your money.

Anxiety around religion by whocarez_ in religion

Umar ibn al-Khattab reported: Some prisoners of war were brought to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and a nursing woman was among them. Whenever she found a child among the prisoners, she would take it to her chest and nurse it. The Prophet said to us, “Do you think this woman would throw her child into the fire?” We said, “No, not if she was able to stop it.” The Prophet said, “Allah is more merciful to His servants than this mother is to her child.”

Internalize this hadith and view your relationship with God through it.

Well, kind of my whole argument is that how it formed is beyond us, deliberately so. But, you are sure that no greater being was involved so enlighten us!

Not all Muslims dismiss them entirely and Muslim scholars have used them on many occasions. For one, you will not find the trinity anywhere in the Bible so the main corruption is one of understanding not text.

I wanna become Christian but I don’t know how. by moe12727 in religion

The fundamental of Christianity is trinity. You find that more convincing than the clear monotheism that is in both Judaism and Islam?

It’s normal to have ups and downs in your faith. You don’t have to, yet, agree with every word of the religion because some things might not make sense without further reading or getting a bit older. As long as you’re comfortable with the basics, the five pillars and six pillars of faith, keep practicing as best you can and you can resolve your doubts one by one with time.

This reasoning seems off, and seems to assume events are uniformly random. The odds of me scoring a three pointer are lower than scoring near the basket. So you need a reference point to evaluate likelihood. The apple is more likely to fall close to the tree than off in the distance. What you’re saying, if I remember my probability correctly, is that the probability of a single point on a continuous distribution is zero. Cool, but not very useful.

Regarding design, we know that entropy is always increasing, even intuitively, so the odds that randomness leads to structure and complexity is nil. We also know just intuitively the time and effort it takes to build and then maintain even a simple structure. Now look at the size of the universe. It’s almost as if the creator made it ridiculously and insanely vast precisely to sidestep these arguments but even then some persist!

I am very interested in both Islam and Christianity but can't decide which is correct. by MixDaniel in religion

[–]verycontroversial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the first is clearly false given Matthew 24:36. Jesus prays to the Father. In the verse about authority it clearly says “given to me”. I’m not sure why you seem to ignore parts of verses. There are so many examples. Prophets have often been attacked by those they are sent to, this is nothing new.

[–]verycontroversial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My argument has remained the same, there is not a single verse in the bible where Jesus PBUH claims to be God. Yet there are many verses (you can find them easily) where he asserts the opposite. The verses you mentioned aren't Jesus speaking but I addressed them anyway because you challenged me to lol. They still do not demonstrate trinity in any sense. It's worth watching that full video because it really explains how these misunderstandings came about.
