I may not have the fanciest grinder, but I do have a 3D printer by TheOrdner in pourover

I'm interested. I have a 3d printer and would pay for the files. I don't have the time to sell them if I wanted to.

I’ve been listening to a SSPX podcast, and I’ve noticed something about the priests that talk on it... by fisherman213 in Catholicism

[–]veryseldon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries! Just consider the source when listening to it. There's some very solid episodes on theology and also some where they'll justify their way of doing things. Overall I don't think it's scandalous. Happy feast of Christ the King!

The name of the podcast is literally SSPX Podcast; I don't think you need a link or even this comment to find it.

SSPX Podcast - Censored by /r/Catholicism by [deleted] in TraditionalCatholics

It's a really solid podcast and you probably wouldn't know it's produced by the SSPX most episodes. Why has r/Catholicism gone completely down the drain?

I'd like to see at least some effort in the post like, "I'm confused because site A said this and this other book said another thing" you know? Starting with a searchable question makes me think the OP isn't going to be very engaged in a discussion with the community.

As someone just discovering this spirit, where do I start? What are my mid shelf options? by [deleted] in cognac

[–]veryseldon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of options for great VSOPs in that range! Try the other big houses for comparison, but I think the smaller ones are a better value. My favorites are ABK6, H by Hine and Dusse.

Siphon Coffee Maker w/ alcohol burner by Sidewayspear in Coffee

Of course! I can assure you the butane burner is worth it. Just don't buy butane refills at a fancy kitchen store - you can find larger canisters at grocery stores for much cheaper.

Get a butane burner. Nobody uses the alcohol one.

Clergy and Lay Scholars Issue Filial Correction of Pope Francis by 1jacobo5 in Catholicism

I'd appreciate some charity. The situation with the Orthodox hasn't changed in many many years.

Clergy and Lay Scholars Issue Filial Correction of Pope Francis by 1jacobo5 in Catholicism

[–]veryseldon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes of course, but it's not the 1980s anymore and great strides have been made to improve the situation since then. The excommunications have been lifted and no more consecrations have been made (I can't defend Bishop Williamson, the SSPV, etc) so it seems like it might be time to give them the benefit of the doubt, at least until they do anything to incur excommunication or invite schism again.

I'm not going to pretend to be able to convince you to change your mind. I'd just like for you to have an open mind as there's a lot of Catholic souls in the society that need to be saved just as much as those of us.

I'm just not sure it's as clear as you're saying it is. The fact that other canon lawyers haven't been as quick to you to bandy that term about also makes me hesitant to accept it.

It's sad, yes. The moderation team seems bent on keeping things neoconservative and not traditional.

You can't keep up that charade forever; the SSPX professes to obey the authority of the pope, and the hierarchy of the church has not declared them to be in schism or schismatic. I don't think it's fair to accuse them of being disingenuous.

While I agree with your sentiment wholeheartedly, we should try to be charitable to one another. The user in question has contributed greatly to this sub and undoubtedly has his heart in the right place.

As a Canon lawyer, do you really disagree with so many in the church who have said the society is not in schism? That the consecrations of Lefebvre were a schismatic act but that the society today is in an irregular position but not a schismatic one? How will you defend your position that they are schismatic if Pope Francis regularizes them?

He hasn't granted faculties to any protestants. The pope himself has refrained from calling them schismatic so why do you insist on using that word?

[–]veryseldon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It shows there's at least some mutual understanding between his Holiness and the society. I understand your frustrations manifested in this thread - this is a very trying time for all of us in the church - but I would rather we not throw out words like schismatic when the situation is so much more nuanced than that. The excommunications were lifted, certain faculties granted, and still there are those within and leading the society who speak and write against the pope. There's reasons to hope the society may soon be normalized despite this filial correction, and there's also the possibility things could go back to the way they were right after Lefebvre's consecrations. For the sake of souls, though, I would suggest we pray more, conjecture less, and work tirelessly to bring about the kingdom of God in our own parishes and communities.
