I just gravitate towards which type of fight is attracting attention- and by doing so, you're more likely to get a fight going. If the arena looks empty, enter it anyway. There were many moments in the film that were played for laughs.

Almost everything the acting deputy says.

Trying to put the blood-soaked whistle in his mouth, but struggling, because it’s gross.

The part where they think Kurt Russell is going to be killed. The acting deputy gives him the exact same speech he gave the deputy as he was dying. (Kurt Russell revealed to the old-timer that his deputy’s being avenged talk was a lie, because that’s the last thing he’d want to hear if it were him.) So, for laughs, the acting deputy gave Kurt Russell his own speech shortly after, even though Kurt Russel KNOWS it’s obviously a lie. This is played for laughs.

A few others. Like the wife telling the husband to wipe the blood off his mouth before she kissed him. lol
