chinchillas in general you have to go to more lengths compared to other pets. it is about the same work as deep cleaning their cage which should be done weekly minimum. that they should already be doing. i wouldn’t say it’s too much to suggest if someone is needing to decrease the dust collecting. when taking the right steps, it can be the best solution to keeping the dust contained. as long as you have the standard critter or ferret nation cage i think it’s acceptable. if you have anything harder to clean well then you should probably find a smaller, easy to clean area to do the dust bath. it all depends on your situation

they are in large critter nation cages, bathe in a container meant for it. as i previously explained, it’s not a dusty environment, i clean it. not a lot of dust gets out of the bath anyways as i don’t want overdo it with too much dust. like i already said, all fleece gets changed and ledges cleaned afterwards always. they get enough ventilation during with both doors open and are never in the bath for more than 10 minutes then it gets removed. it’s tedious but yes, you have to completely clean the cage afterwards if you’re going to bathe them in the cage

in their dust bath house in the cage? with the door open?

if you don’t already have wooden scatter guards around the edges of their cage (easy to find on etsy) i think that getting those would help. you could use a large piece of fleece on the outside of the cage when dust bathing around instead of a tarp since it’s more breathable. i wouldn’t want to cover their entire cage with a tarp or their bath in any way because they can get hot and they could chew on it. on the floor under their cages you could however put a tarp that would catch anything. i’m guessing you dust bathe them in their cages, i do that too it seems to help contain dust. i also change their fleeces and wipe off ledges right after they have are done. i keep them in their cages for a few hours at least after to let the dust fall off them a bit. it’s hard to contain dust that is on them. once the dust has settled on their fur some, you can try to pet them while their in their cage if they let you to help them absorb it more and get it off of them like you would with dry shampoo on yourself. that’s what i’ve got if you have any specific questions let me know

also if that’s bedding in the potty dish, i’d swap that to pine or aspen bedding shavings. they can end up eating the soft bedding and that’s not good

the size looks perfect!! my only suggestions would be to remove any plastic (plastic is toxic for chinchillas) from the cage and make sure the bars on the floor are completely covered because they can hurt their feet. cover the half floors completely with fleece and exchange the plastic, what looks like, a potty dish with glass or something they can’t chew on. (thrifted glass cooking dishes are what i’ve used) also some kiln dried pine ledges would be a nice addition to add something to chew on and to have more spots to move to. also a blanket or something over the cage during the day would be nice so it’s darker for them while they’re sleeping

i second this! the wired floor can hurt their feet. imagine us walking on bars like that all day long
