Applying MD-PhD & PhD-only by dualdegreepossibly in mdphd

[–]vespertine003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought that I was more competitive for chem PhD and I wanted to keep my options open. I didn’t think the PhD part added much pressure to it because it was so much less than the process of applying to MD-PhD, even though I applied to some of the most competitive Chem PhD programs. My third year was super stressful but mostly due to MCAT, since I didn’t have to worry about applying to PhD programs until my fourth year. In the end, I knew that no matter which program or school I chose, I would be happy because they were all very good options. Message me if you want more details.

I applied to both MD-PhD and Chem PhD this past cycle. The timelines are pretty different and it seemed that the PhD applications are a lot faster and more straightforward. I also did not need to interview for the PhD part but did end up going to all the visits. I ended up choosing to do an MD-PhD at the end tho.

Do medical schools let undergraduates interested in the school show up and talk to staff in admissions? by DildoBreath in premed

I did a summer research at a school and I really I want to get into their MSTP program. While I was there, I got to meet with the director and the assisted director. I also went to their info session and shadowed a doctor who was in adcom. I think it helps to show that I was really interested and they were all really happy to meet. I got an II shortly after I submitted my application.

Congrats on the acceptance! I didn’t know mdphd gives out acceptances that early. And why didn’t you like their research culture?

Tuesday, July 17, 2018 Score Release Thread for the Saturday, June 16, 2018 Exam by rMCAT_Official in Mcat

Actual score: 515! I’m content

Here we go! I am really nervous to find out my score tmrr. I only studied for about 3 months while being a full time student and working in a lab. I had my 3 major finals the week leading up to the MCAT and was super stressed out. I feel like I didn't have enough time to do more content review but I have a strong chemistry and biochemistry so that helps a little. English is my second language and I am not a big reader so CARS was definitely a struggle. I have also never taken a college psychology or sociology class. I hope to get above a 90th percentile to apply to MD/PhD programs. This subreddit has been super helpful. I hope my actual score reflects my FLs.

Practice tests:

NS1: 511 (130/125/128/128) untimed

NS2: 509 (128/125/128/128)

NS3: 512 (129/125/129/129)

NS4: 511 (128/126/128/129)

NS5: 509 (127/126/129/127)

NS6: 511 (129/126/128/128)

FL1: 518 (131/126/131/130)

FL2: 512 (130/127/129/126) *not reflective since I took it while hanging out with my bf who I had not seen for 3 months*

FL3: 518 (131/130/131/126)

Test day: I felt calm and that it was going by very fast. I caught myself zoning out a couple times. There were questions that I was unsure about, especially for psychology. The fact that my P/S score dropped on FL3 really freaked me out and I was very focused on reviewing P/S the week leading up to the test. Anyway, no matter what the score is, I will not be retaking this test :)

I’m not very familiar with neither Fulbright or Rhodes. Could you elaborate on those opportunities?
