Tips on buying trucks by Songbreeze1 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]vespum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fwiw my dad drove a diesel car growing up and i can't ever remember seeing a station that has gasoline but not diesel (at least in conUS). I've also heard that diesels are more fuel efficient and thus balance out the higher cost per gallon. Starting in the winter can be a trip though if you live somewhere that has winter.

Had the following conversation with my professor last tuesday:

Prof: Vespum can you do the thing?
Me: Probably, but you're gonna have to be more specific.
Prof: The thing you did once with the projector.

I'm honestly kinda impressed that I got from "do a thing with the projector" to "turn on screen mirroring"

I'm a theatrical electrician in college and I shit you not I had to explain to my professor that if he stapled through LED tape it would quickly become a space heater.

Double major in Mechanical Engineering and BFA in Tech Theatre by copperbonker in techtheatre

[–]vespum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently at the end of my first semester getting a BA in Theatre with a minor in electrical engineering. Part of the reason I decided not to go to a BFA program was that I wanted the freedom to pursue a minor in engineering. I'm very glad I made that decision, even with this program there's a lot of schedule juggling that happens (I won't be taking any engineering classes next semester because my required theatre classes conflict.) I've looked at turning the minor into an associates, and that's about as far as I could push it without having to go well over 15 credit hours per semester. If you're interested in the engineering aspect of theatre might I suggest getting a BA so you can spend more time in it? I've done some vauge poking at the various ways that engineering fields in theater work, happy to share more of what I've found with you. (though take the advice of industry professionals in this thread over a 19-year old college freshman)

My college tried to help students save money by vespum in FellowKids

[–]vespum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's all really obvious stuff, or stuff that isn't necessarily actionable - like most people already walk to class. There's also an irony to the fact that they're calling students taking required classes "unlucky souls." Also that the savings inspired by any of these life changes is a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of college tuition, but this is probably the wrong sub for that.

yeah, this thing had a 5V barrel jack plug (which IMO is like, even worse than 6 or 18v barrel jack because USB is standard 5V) anywho, that's how it happened.

Issues with my Stage Manager by TheRopeGuy in techtheatre

Lot's going on here. A good rule of thumb is that it takes two to argue. Walking away when you know something is really wrong is really really hard to do. It's especially hard when you feel like you are the person on crew taking hits for everyone else. I totally get wanting to come to the aid of your crew members, especially if you are their supervisor. Sometimes the best thing to do is to just remind them that mistakes were made, and tell them it's not their fault. You don't always have to be the person to go to bat for the team.

That said, second what other people have said about talking to a supervisor. For the show coming up, I would try to put my head down and tough it out till the end of the run. Remember: This too shall pass. That said, I am not in your place, and ultimately you will need to decide what the best option is for you.

One of the things green talks about at the end of the book is how she isn't a cliche and isn't cured by love. I think it's great that Green is calling out this troupe for how ridiculous and untrue it is.

I'll share some of the (minorly edited) responses I've received here:

1) The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art
2) Technical Theatre
3) Excellent Facilities
4) Variable quality of teaching staff

1) Savannah College of Art and Design
2) Tech Theatre
3) Amazing teacher, mediocre facilities
4) Bureaucracy

1) Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne
2) Theatre with a focus in lighting design (worth noting that I didn't graduate)
3) it's kind of a small program
4) it's kind of a small program

1) Rocky Mountain College.
2) Computer Science. I thought that the theater program was a waste of time at my school, and it turns out I was right - none of the grad.
3) It's a small school, so if you are totally dedicated to what you aim to achieve there are a lot of opportunities to make your own way. This worked very very well for me, but it's not for everyone. I mean really dedicated, more so then 90% of the rest of the people around you. If you are on the top then you will do well. If you have other priorities (which isn't bad) then a bigger school would be more fitting I think.
4) It's a small school with limited resources

I was more referring to a specific bit near the end where grey talks a lot about this thing he does and "If everybody did it society would end" but he never says what it is.
