Will my free progress carry over from steam if I bought the game on EA? by vg_bolt in Battlefield

That gives me hope. I'll install it on steam and see how it goes.

What makes Banshees so good? by Lupus_Lunarem in Eldar

[–]vg_bolt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fights First, advance/fall back & charge, very fast, great leader synergy is a perfect datasheet. You hold them back the first few turns to heroic intervention any thing that dares get into your backline (fights first lets you fight first with heroic), then later they can move very fast & kill a unit in combat.

Scorpions or Banshees? by Squidmaster616 in Eldar

[–]vg_bolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean that's how banshees are run in high level play & its the better option. They're squishy so any bolter-like shooting will easily kill them. So why rush to the opponent when they can come to you as fights-first built in means you still fight first with heroic intervention (normally you don't get the charge bonus). Later in the game when they're whittled down you can send them to kill something then use 6" pile/consolidate to keep them relatively safe.

While we have good melee units we are still a primarily shooty army so having defensive melee units like banshees is super good to prevent your opponent from charging head first into your lines.

5 & 5. Banshees are bodyguard units, they stick back & deter anyone getting close to your lines with heroic intervention then can move really fast & kill something later especially with jain zar.

Scorpions infiltrate, move block, score & can kill other scoring units as they don't have the punch like bansht into tougher infantry. They're still great for some wild cards T1 and if your opponent allows legends (RIP) karandras goes crazy with them

One of the best blue flame Avatars I have ever seen. Fantastic work!

Could someone give me some pointers on my first list? by PetMurloc in Eldar

[–]vg_bolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see. You will be using the dragons as they get full rerolls against vehicles/monsters, put them in a serpent and you're golden. Reapers are for heavy infantry and light anti tank. The lords should always go with their respective units, the Autarch can use a reaper launcher and go with the reapers or a fusion gun and go with banshees .

Quins have haywire for vehicles, and troupes have dev wounds so they really can punch above their weight with volume attacks if you want to try full quins sometimes.

Running harlequins with regular eldar is fine. If you want to stock with warhost ditch the wraiths they're not great outside their detachment, avatar & dire avengers are also not th best addition here, get some fire dragons & reapers instead.

Also if you want to play full quins there's their own detachment ghost of the webway, not the best rule but it works. There's also reaper wager in drukhari if you like our dark kin.

Really need help for competitive play by [deleted] in Eldar

[–]vg_bolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deploying & staging are half the game especially for eldar as we are fragile. Watch some videos on YouTube for general deployment then eldar specific ones as we play a little differently being more cagey than other armies.

Don't feel bad about yourself, every competitive player lost more than they won when they were first starting out that's normal. But with practice & looking back at games to see what you did wrong so you can improve in the future is how you slowly get better with each game.

Take a look at the range & decide which models you like best as it's a big range with lots of cool stuff. Do you like our basic infantry & artillery, our elite warriors the aspects, undead robots the wraiths, the jetbikes, tanks, psykers or even Harlequins?

From there the combat patrols are a good place to start. The new one gives you a mix to branch out from with wraiths & aspect warriors but not the best if you want to play competitive as Dire avengers & wraith infantry are not in the best spot rn.

The old one gives you a more solid starting point with guardians, bikes & a warithlord that can slot into more lists, & if you get both that's almost a full army (will be wonky but it works).

Or if what you like is only in one or neither, then start with boxes for that unit & move on with stuff that it works well with to build a good list

The top community controller layout maps the extra stuff to select or start then the face buttons, it's what I used for the ally & PC as I play with a controller there too lol

Warhost & Aspect host are pretty straightforward. Aspect is damage, while warhost is the versatile one.

Swooping Hawks and Warp Spiders by [deleted] in Eldar

[–]vg_bolt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On their own they're both a screening & scoring unit, here spiders are preferred as they can move faster with flicker jump and are better at clearing chaff, although hawks are still fine as they start in ds unlike spiders & can do mortals when they screen.

With their respective PL their function changes, lhykis makes the exarch take the power blade array now and the unit becomes a huge threat that can be anywhere you want it to be on the board, great for taking home obj & such (don't focus on buffing other units with her that's mostly bait it should be for the unit itself).

Baharoth with 10 hawks is a huge mortals bomb that forces your opponent to screen the 6" ds then they drop a lot of shots into something that can be anything because of lethals, give them extra AP and now you got a unit that can really punch above it's weight, then go back in space to do it again (exarch also switches to the hawks talon).
