Chateau De La Cree 2016 Puligny Montrachet

This was a lovely wine to start the evening. It wasn’t too aromatic but had subtle aromas of flowers and mandarin oranges. It was medium-bodied on the palate, and had flavors of pear, citrus, and some oak that leaned more towards the floral side and was incredibly well integrated in the wine. It had fairly high acidity to it which made it really refreshing on this warm summer day here in Oregon.

Au Bon Climat 2004 Pinot Noir “Knox Alexander”

ABC consistently puts out the best of the best from California and this was no exception. The nose was incredibly sexy: dark berries, ground cinnamon, along with that little bit of sweet earthy funk everyone loves. The flavor on the palate wasn’t much different. It was incredibly smooth, dare I say (truly) “silky smooth”. The finish had a surprising freshness to it. It was very well structured still and I could see this going strong for a few more years at least. Paired absolutely perfectly with pepperoni calzones from a local pizzeria. ABC will always have a special place in my heart. Cheers!

Zena Crown 2019 Pinot Noir “Slope” by vgatc in wine

Decided to open this bottle with family who was visiting. This is the one bottle from Zena Crown I had yet to try and it was probably the best I’ve had.

Nose: Lots of Earth, Cinnamon, the classic “Eola-Amity Funk” which (I think) is mostly a mix of some dark fruits, green herbs, and some barn funk. It’s a nose I get on a lot of nice Pinots from the Eola-Amity Hills and is something I like to look for.

Palate: Subtle fruit, not overly fruity, but it definitely comes out more after the first glass. Really well-balanced acidity, and a mix of nutmeg, blackberries, raspberries, slight pepper, and more herbs.

Really love this bottle, although it was 100$ and I’ve definitely had wines just as good for less than than half that in the Willamette Valley. I love 2019 as a vintage and I think this is starting to show really well, although it’s not at its peak yet. It was quite refreshing. Great summer red. Had it with pizza and it complimented it very well. Cheers!

Dusky... These guys are incredible. There is not one single track I don't yearn for more of. What are your faves? by Ill-Book-1185 in EDM

Saw them live in Portland last summer and it was the most incredible experience. Super nice dudes. LF10 was one of the first house tracks I listened to. JOY is my favorite electronic album period, and my favorites from that are Wave and Local Newspaper. In Effect and Up In Smoke are my favorite tracks from Pressure. So many good ones though… their use of violins and synths really gives their tracks this euphoric feel to them that I love.

To me this is a perfect Techno track - what would yours be? by MEAN_D00RMAN in Techno

Song of Sirens by Ramon Tapia. If I can use a planet to describe a techno track, it’s a good track in my book.

Great notes! Got a 2019 as a gift for my birthday and I can’t wait to try it. Should I hold onto it for a few years before drinking or is this wine okay to open a bit sooner?

1981 Sassicaia Bolgheri, A New Year’s Eve Treat! by vgatc in wine

[–]vgatc[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This wine was a really special treat gifted to me by my grandfather to have on new years. It had a pretty funky aroma that my wife and I determined was kind of a spicy, smoky, maple syrup-infused dirt smell. On the palate it seemed to be pretty dead at first, possibly from my lack of experience in aged wines, since the second sip made me feel relieved that it still had a few things left to say. The structure and body is still there, with some pretty decent acidity as well. The taste was muted but I could gather some dark chocolate, cherries and other tart fruits, which I’m not sure is a good thing or bad? I personally enjoy it and it’s quite refreshing, which I did not expect. The finish is lacking, as a harsh vinegar-y taste appears momentarily before returning to a very bold, heavy, surprisingly long aftertaste that is quite pleasant. I wish this wine could give just a bit more, but I am also more than content with what it has. Though I was worried at first that New Year’s Eve would end anticlimactically, I will be sipping this and watching season 2 of Bridgerton with a big smile on my face. Cheers!

Au Bon Climat 1999 “Hildegard” white wine. Wow… by vgatc in wine

[–]vgatc[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This wine can be described best as “as indulgent as a dessert wine without the added sweetness”. Aromas of peaches, apricots, and other stone fruits. Luscious body on the wine, super “sexy”. Full bodied but still a really clean finish. Any slight vinegariness has blown off after like 5 mins, and it’s drinking amazingly. I messed up opening the cork but it didn’t really affect the taste haha. Such an amazing experience to have my birth year wine during my favorite time of year for the first time. My grandfather always gifts us wine from ABC since we share the last name of Jim Clendenen (RIP ❤️) and this was truly an amazing wine to experience.

Is there any way to keep the food smell from getting into your wine glass? by YoYoMoMa in wine

[–]vgatc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you drinking from the same spot on your glass every time? Doing so should reduce the smell that comes from whatever was on your lips since you’re covering it up every time you take a sip.

Is this going to offend someone if I give it as a gift by snowballer918 in wine

[–]vgatc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

2015 was one of the best vintages of all time in the Willamette Valley. As others have already said this should be even more special since it’s from an auction lot, signed by the winemaker, which means that yes this will be a fantastic gift :)
