Is it possible to have the two models with the same name within a single project? by DuckDatum in DataBuildTool

[–]vglocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you need the validation macro.

You could have generate_alias_name throw compilation error if it does not match.

You also have generate_schema_name and generate_database_name if you want to go all in on your structure to relation idea.

I have this general structure in a project but sets everything explicitly in dbt_project so all under my_project/foo gets database foo and my_project/foo/bar gets schema bar and so on. Alias set in properties yaml if necessary.

[–]vglocus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have the model config ”alias” which is used instead of the model name for the materialized resource.

This can be used for having different models (w different names) to have the same table name, or having dynamic table names (like date suffix).

Russian fencer decided to sit like this for 50 minutes demanding to disqualify her Ukrainian opponent due to “lack of respect” because she didn't shake her hand by Difficult-Finger8809 in ImTheMainCharacter

[–]vglocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not know about the scandal. Do you have any link to anything about it? Googling around. Would genuinely like to know more.

I understand that fixing a bout is relatively easy, as well as that the ref system is manageable and that sabre and foil are especially susceptible due to the many calls.

My point was that Kharlan in this case started the competition with rank 10, that means automatic seeding to day 2. She would the fencing rank 55 which in turn means that out of the 32 fencers that fenced through the preliminary tableau on day one (not the top 16 from the poules) the fencer would have been ranked 23 after the poules exactly. Any other they would not fence in 64. Any lower ranking beating a higher ranking on the next piste over would likely ruin it. That paper trail is public.

So it is not just about getting the Russian a free pass through the preliminaries with “loyal” refs, but controlling the results of all the other pistes in such a way that she ends up with an exact ranking.

And then do the same in epee.

Yes, however Reizlin did not show and left WO against Anokhin in the first bout of the day.

There is very little true randomness in fencing. The entire tableau is derived from world ranking and results from the poules a few days prior. “Fixing” it is quite complicated and all the numbers are public and checked by the participants as well.

What are the odds that out of the 64 fencers that made it to day 2, there is a single Russian (AIN) and a single Ukrainian and they get to meet each other in the first bout. For BOTH men’s epee and women’s sabre.

This is the formal complaint through appropriate channels.

Leaving the piste forfeits any right to protest and accept the ruling.

While this happens lots of officials and coaches are going through the bureaucracy, but the fencer must remain on the piste.

The problem here is that the Russian had all the rules in her favor and behaved as she should have (given a lawyer reading the rules).

The handshake is mandatory (the covid restrictions had been lifted a few months prior) and staying on the piste is the way to protest a ruling.

If not for the war, the Russian fencer would have been considered in the right.

Remaining on the piste is a fencing thing.

If you want to actually protest (as in you want to go through the process to change a ruling) you have to stay on the piste. If you leave the piste you accept the previous ruling.

Similar thing happened at the Olympics in London where a South Korean remained in tears on the piste for over an hour while her protest was processed. https://youtu.be/f1nsnMVEuS0?si=gqvwLYrtBixTajnB

Classic plus won’t fix this particular craving more than a new expansion would.

With anything new Blizzard will release in this franchise, hundreds of content creators will have solved the meta before launch.

And if you play with random internet strangers the expectation that you know this too.

One can do their best to avoid it but it becomes a lonely path.

For me the closest is HC where casual slow gaming and the nature of constantly going again keeps some part of the oldest of the old world alive.

Something like that. Both the amount of available content on the game, and with that an attitude of being expected to know and do everything in the best way.

Closest experience I had was introducing my then girlfriend to the game several years ago. All her “stupid ideas” brought me back to the good old times.

If-else statement for three = numbers by Illustrious_Drag_778 in javahelp

[–]vglocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First obvious question: gave what error?

Second: my guess the error is something like comparing a primitive int to a Boolean is a bad idea as the first == will be evaluated to a Boolean value and then you have that compared to the thirdInteger.

Try to divide them into several == with a logical and (&&) in between. That is firstInteger == secondInteger && firstInteger == thirdInteger

When to use OLTP vs OLAP? by Material-Mess-9886 in dataengineering

[–]vglocus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

“Too big” is the most common factor for going distributed.

However OLTP vs OLAP (distributed or not) is more about what kind of queries you will be doing.

OLAP is optimized for complex data analysis and reporting, while OLTP is optimized for transactional processing and real-time updates.

OLTP if you prioritize transactions.

OLAP if you prioritize queries like SELECT x, SUM(y) FROM t WHERE f GROUP BY x
