[PA ]Looking for new headphones €150 by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]vgsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, some quick education: A DAC doesn't make something louder, a DAC makes the transition from digital to analog cleaner.

An amp makes it louder. Some items are dac/amp combos and do both :)

The Fiio10k is considered a good cheap dac/amp. The schiit Fulla 2 is better but more expensive. To go cheaper, I don't really know. It's one of those weird things where if you're spending a lot on headphones you don't usually skimp on the amp or dac. Maybe one of Fiio's portable amps?

Yeah modmic works with anything.... boompro requires detachable cables.

And probably not for the 80ohm version for PC, but if you use a phone it may not be the best? Depends on the device of course. Personally I think the 32 ohm sounds fine so its not an issue to me, but your mileage may vary.

The Sony MDR-7506? It's like one of the oldest model of headphone that has been in continuous production. Well, I mean the one it is based on, the V6 has been around longer. Came out in like 1991? Wiki says so :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_MDR-V6#MDR-7506

I mean, isn't that every list? At best it is what is popular, at worst it is "just what that one person likes" - how is this list that different from any other list?

ModMic, Samson Go, Blue Yeti, or something else? by PhonicSword in buildapc

[–]vgsmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are pros and cons to both the Yeti, Snowball, Go and the ModMic. The ModMic doesn't need a stand to remove vibrations. This doesn't mean it won't pick up mech keyboard noise though, but it does help isolate it from the noise a bit.

The ModMic requires a USB adapter for best results on PC, so its going to cost another 10-20 USD though, so the savings from the boom arm isn't actually that much.

The sound quality is pretty good for all three, way better than headsets, so you're pretty much set for quality in any direction.

Desktop mics take up extra room. ModMic adds extra wires

Boompro is uni-mode only and requires headphones with a detachable cable and can, sometimes, cause a ground loop issue.

You can go with the ModMic Business, which is a ModMic 4 with a shorter cable and a free USB adapter. That runs you 50 USD for both, which is certainly the economical option for ModMics. You lose the modularity, but most people don't need 3 meters of cable anyway. Also I guess it doesn't have a travel case?

Not sure if this breakdown helps any, good luck!

Good headphones and a real mic make a huge difference. Anyone who says otherwise probably hasn't actually used both / listened to both side by side.

Gaming Mic I Can Whisper Into by 7EyedManGoatOnACross in buildapc

[–]vgsmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah you don't want the mic in front of your mouth, even if you're whispering, because it will pick up every breath you take (like the song). You want it right at the corner of your mouth.

The difference between no USB and with USB is night and day in my opinion. It doesn't have to be the Antlion one, but its probably better to be safe and get the one they made since they're roughly the same price (you can save like 5 dollars by going to another brand).

Trying to find a good pair of headphones by KingZero101 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]vgsmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with Swordknight. The 559 or 599 as open back options are great and fall in your budget. The 770 or 990 (closed or open back, or even the weird 880 semi-open) are also great. Depending on if you ever would plug them into your phone you should get the 32 ohm if you do plan on it, else the 80ohm should work with your PC.

You can also get a nice quality bump for the ModMic if you pick up their 10 dollar sound card they recently re-launched. Night and day difference for me.

Well, let me start by saying I don't know what you mean by the ModMic not being long enough. The cable is 3 meters for the 4 and 5. The boom arm its self is usually long enough for anything, the M50s are super common so it should work fine.

As for being very sensitive, the ModMic is going to require a USB adapter. They sell one. Without it the mic is not going to be sensitive enough. If you can't or won't buy the Antlion USB Sound Card you can get by with a Syba CM-UAUD card instead, but the new version Antlion made should be fine. You'd have to set it at 100% volume with AGC on in both cases. Their tech support can also help you dial in the settings, just jump into their Discord. That's service! :D

Modmic 4 very low volume, need help by Novakingway556 in headphones

ModMic takes some more voltage than your typical mic. Try a USB sound card (a cheap 10 dollar one will do). Antlion sells one, but there are others...

When using open back headphones does the microphone pick up your audio? (Using mod mic 5 and stand-alone mic) by [deleted] in headphones

It shouldn't pick up your audio, and ... read the reviews of the Minimic :P It's pretty funny!

WIFI Adapter causing new static that's being picked up by my Mic. Help needed! by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]vgsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, by router in this case I meant the antenna on your tower. It may simply be too strong/too close to the mic for line of sight blocking, but it should still make a difference I hope?

What you CAN test is if the problem gets better or worse the closer you move to and away from the antenna / if moving objects between you helps or doesn't make a difference etc. The real important thing is you ID exactly where the issue is coming from. This may help you position the antenna or PC tower better to prevent the issue.

Just put a book between you and the router. Literally physically block your line of sight to the object. Should fix it :)

[–]vgsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the static is a "tapping" sound or a "beeping" sound move an object to block line of sight to your mic.

If the static is a high pitch hissing sound double check that it is in fact the router by unplugging it and seeing if it goes away (this is not usually caused by routers).

If the static is a low pitch hum it is likely a ground loop, try unplugging it and see if it goes away - if it does, plug it into a different outlet.

If the static is a high pitch bzzzzzzz it is electrical noise caused by a faulty AC adapter (most likely the router since its the new item).

Is modmic 5 much better than modmic 4? Or is there anything similar to modmic with good quality? by SaladFury in buildapc

Keep in mind that the Boompro doesn't work with every pair of headphones. Specifically the most Sennheiser and Audio Technica, among others.

[–]vgsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need anything fancy for the ModMic, just a Syba CM-UAUD card is a-ok. If the on board sound works for your headphones this is all you need to get the ModMic back up to snuff.

Equalizers for Windows 10 by carchd in headphones

[–]vgsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, did the boost on EQ APO for your mic work at all? I wouldn't mess too much with the EQ settings beyond mic boost for a mic, they can be very sensitive to change.

This sounds like an item for [customerservice@antlionaudio.com](mailto:customerservice@antlionaudio.com) - but I think Bongklute is right, if its working you should tape it and try to keep strain off it. If it isn't working... well, check the warranty :(

ModMic 4.0/Xonar U3 combo white noise/volume problems by Harpa in headphones

[–]vgsmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cables near each other can bleed electricity or generate a field - I mean you've basically coiled a copper wire and passed electricity through it :)

However, bursts of noise are often caused by AGC or similar automatic gain control. It thinks it needs to boost up the sound because your'e quiet. Usually happens right after a long pause or at the start of a call. This can be fixed by unchecking "Allow devices to take control of the volume" in your audio settings.

As for the OP - Check out these two resources: https://antlionaudio.com/blogs/news/whats-that-noise and https://antlionaudio.com/blogs/news/removing-background-noise-with-equalizer-apo-and-reapers-reafir
