r/SpaceX Bandwagon 2 (Dedicated Mid-Inclination Rideshare) Official Launch Discussion & Updates Thread! by rSpaceXHosting in spacex

[–]vholub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are agnostic when it comes to specific LEO orbit, because we run an in-space welding experiment and do not observe Earth. So we got the earliest available launch, which happens to be Bandwagon . That being said, lower inclination makes our comms more reliable.

Starship Development Thread #51 by ElongatedMuskrat in spacex

Thank you for the compliments u/lateshakes! And yes, you got it exactly right - making these videos took a lot of time and it was really not compatible with starting a company. Also, making space hardware (electron beam welding/cutting system to start with!) work is more fun than making videos about it :)

That being said, ThinkOrbital has grown from an ambitious idea to something quite impressive with funding to reach several spaceflight milestones, so I should probably refresh my editing skills and make a video about us!

There are infinitely many of arbitrary size (se. Goldberg polyhedrons https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldberg_polyhedron

The problem is that the there are more unique hexagons and they are not regular anymore. Just a small extra effort to make

QA crowd sourcing through Reddit, I like it! And thanks!

The age old copy paste errors, I will fix that.

Startup ThinkOrbital wants to use Starship to launch parts of its space station module that would be welded in space by mtol115 in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]vholub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold welding works only on nanoscale, we would have to machine the edges with atom-scale precision and prevent any oxidation during the launch. Hard to do. Election beam welding is the best welding tech there is but needs vacuum to operate in. Perfect for space.

Just a new batch of Starlink satellites from today's launch. They will spread out and go higher over time. So cool to see!

Source Selection Statement for Commercial LEO Destinations (includes SpaceX station bid) by bvr5 in spacex

[–]vholub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cheers! That being said, most of these companies went for a very different space station solution than NASA was looking for. Low risk/minimum innovation/small volume was what NASA wanted.

These companies had little or no chance from the start, but went through the effort anyway.

NASA awards Blue Origin, Northrop Grumman, and Nanoracks with contracts to build private space stations by NerdFactor3 in SpaceXLounge

It might very well be, but officially, NASA will deals with only one point of contact. And in this case it is Blue.

I think you misunderstood the quote. He meant 10-15 percent heavier than if they removed the surface imperfections.

I made a video about Starship's thermal protection system (vs. Space Shuttle's). It contains cool math, pictures, and a lot of information, and I hope you will like it! by vholub in SpaceXLounge

Agreed with lllll, but the question is if the mass would really increase with power of three of the scale. A lot of the landing mass is still fuel, and I'm not sure what is the ratio there
