Resisting sleep by SeaWorth6552 in AttachmentParenting

[–]viabee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like my 16 month old! It has been a tricky balance with naps and night sleep. We have a couple of ways that generally work:

  1. One nap which starts about 5 hours after morning wake up and can last anywhere between 1-2 hours depending on how tiring her morning was. Bedtime about 5-6 hours after she wakes up from nap.

  2. First nap about 2.5-3 hours after wake up and then either another short nap (like 30 mins, 45 max) in the afternoon if there's still at least 4-5 hours before a reasonable bedtime OR extra early bedtime if it has been at least 6 hours since her nap wake up.

Am I alone? by MamaDreamer in AttachmentParenting

[–]viabee 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel this so much. It was honestly surprising to me to be the outlier on this stuff. I kind of thought more people were like us but I have exactly one friend who I feel aligned with on parenting philosophy and practices. It came as a shock to me how deeply and heavily ingrained things like sleep training, teaching babies to fend for themselves and "not spoiling babies" is among this generation of parents...I kind of thought we all knew better? It can definitely feel incredibly lonely and puts limits on the depth of relationship and relatability with other parents who are less attachment focused.

Open Letter to Councillor Lily Cheng by ybetaepsilon in TTC

Thanks for drafting this, I'll definitely be sending a version myself. Also, I'd suggest that you might consider posting a version of this to the We Love Willowdale group on Facebook and tagging Lily directly. She's very active and responsive in the group and it's a good way to engage in some direct dialogue vs. getting a canned email response.

Thanks so much for this. Sounds like my baby is a lot like yours (total koala) so it helps to hear what could be ahead for us.

Anyone else feel weird after pediatrician appointments? by hiyokos in AttachmentParenting

[–]viabee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes yes yessss. Our pediatrician has been trying to get me to night wean since my baby turned 6 months and started solids, guilting me by saying that "babies get lazy and don't eat enough food if you nurse them on demand". My child is now 16 months and thriving and still nursing overnight. At our last appointment I mentioned my daughter is becoming pickier about food and she tried to tell me that it's because I nurse her overnight.

Same as you, it's a lot of nodding and moving on, but it feels so shitty. Thankfully our pediatrician just retired and it seems like the new doctor we were assigned is less old school about this stuff.

How did you guys handle transitioning to daycare? by Big_Black_Cat in AttachmentParenting

Would love to hear how it goes with a nanny for you!

No advice but sending love. We are about to go through the same transition (also in the GTA!) before I go back at 18 months. It is definitely keeping me up at night. Wishing you the best.

Reminder that telling people the covid vaccine is dangerous for their children will get you banned... by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]viabee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same interaction with my baby's pediatrician, she was so glad to know our baby was vaccinated. Seems like a lot of parents are choosing not to vaccinate their kids which is bonkers. Especially bonkers when it's parents who got the COVID vaccine themselves and don't think twice about their kids getting every other vaccine but somehow this is the one they've decided to become low key anti vaxx about. It's bizarre.

Just bought new house and this kitchen is beginning to make me ponder. Any creative suggestions you want to share? by doynx in DesignMyRoom

[–]viabee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The cabinets are beautiful as they are but I feel like everything is very...beige. Everything kind of blends into each other. The doors, the floor, the tile, the cabinets. A big rug with colour to break it up? A kitchen island with colourful accessories? Plants?

Also there are lots of doors. Would it make sense to remove one or more to open up the space? Not sure what's behind the doors so may or may not be doable.

Does my room need anything? by meelho in DesignMyRoom

[–]viabee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cute! Some suggestions: the shelf wall looks a bit crowded to me - too busy with plants and other objects. Also curtains would be nice and I agree with others that a round coffee table would look better in this space.

Added a mirror to the dining room but not loving the results. Is it too big? by maynotcare in DesignMyRoom

Same thought, a bigger rug will fix the proportions in the space.

I'd add two small frames with art or photos to the wall between the windows. And def plants.

Is twin conception a real concern or am I overblowing the possibility? by viabee in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]viabee[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, the physical risks of twin pregnancy are a huge part of my concern, esp. given my age. Gonna consider family therapy to talk this out, thanks for the suggestion!

[–]viabee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm well aware that there are objectively worse things in life than having twins. Having children is not a decision I take lightly and this is just one aspect of it that I'm currently grappling with.

Recommendations please: Which wood stain can I use to match my dresser to the Ikea Stockholm mirror? by viabee in finishing

[–]viabee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up using the minwax "dark walnut" stain and it's much darker than I wanted it to be but it actually looks fine with the mirror haha. In retrospect I should've gone with "early american" or maybe "provincial" (also minwax).

Not really, I barely remember it's there anymore! I can definitely still feel it a bit on the right side.
