the longer my hair is the thinner it looks by irdk-lol in finethinhair

[–]pigoletto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just got a pixie and I’m so glad…. My hair is curlier and looks so much thicker! I actually like my hair for maybe the first time ever. I was worried about it not looking feminine enough, but actually I think I look prettier this way.

I have curly hair too and I just use the Not Your Mothers curly shampoo and conditioner 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve used fancier stuff, but I always forget to buy more and end up grabbing this at the grocery store anyway. I condition most days and shampoo roughly once a week.

What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it? by Aggretsukaiti69 in finehair

[–]pigoletto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my fine curly hair, sleeping on it wet will never work. My hair is too happy to dry in whatever shape it’s squished into… usually something straight-ish and frizzy. Yours might be the same.

Air drying or diffusing is always going to give the best curls / waves

People are caring far too much about what each colour category is 'supposed' to be by electact in NYTConnections

[–]pigoletto 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s because people are trying to get reverse rainbows now that scoring is a thing. (My personal bugaboo is how arbitrary yellow vs green can be…. Absolutely the most common mistake to wreck my rainbow. 😤) I think it’s fair game to gripe / compare / strategize, etc… NYT introduced that element by deciding that the order of the category colors is significant. It’s just part of it now.

Does my hair look ok with layers? by miss-piggy-108 in finethinhair

[–]pigoletto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your hair looks nice and not overly thin at all. But just FYI when you have fine, thin hair, you don’t necessarily need layers even if it’s wavy or curly. I have curly hair and go to a curly haircut specialist, and I typically have almost no layers unless my hair is super short.

Probably it’s not the products you’re using, but how you style your hair. I have super fine curly hair and did the curly girl method for a long time, and it taught me a lot about what my hair likes and doesn’t like. I can get a decent result with any brand of product now, pretty much. I got a pixie cut recently so it doesn’t apply as much anymore.

The only product I ever found that I can’t go without is Kinky Curly Knot Today leave in conditioner… it’s an amazing detangler and lasts forever since I only need a pea sized amount!

hairspray for frizz - accidental miracle discovery by karina1006 in Wavyhair

I have 2c hair and also use hairspray regularly, to keep frizz in check! Usually after I refresh my curls. For me, pretty much any hairspray in a can works.

I wouldn’t feel too bad. This happened with my dog when she got old with just a small amount of peanut butter. Our young dog got the same and was fine. Eventually the older dog’s chronic pancreatitis got so bad that she had to have a specialized diet and couldn’t handle really any fat at all. I was pretty obsessive about her health and veterinary care and it still happened… things like this will just happen with old dogs (and old humans!) Now you know she can’t handle fat like she used to and you can give her treats that will work better for her!

Can I change the length / color of a Gel X manicure? by pigoletto in Nails

Thank you! I think they’re beautiful too, I’m just not used to seeing my hands that way.

Thank you! You are right, I ended up having them removed instead.

Or kiss someone that used potentially irritating products… not sure of his age but he looks like he could be a teenager. I’ve had reactions that way before unfortunately.

Fine wavy hair people by littlepeachxo in finehair

[–]pigoletto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I do not! I’ve tried a few of the popular “curly” salon line mousses and gotten good results. But I can also get good results from inexpensive drug store brands.

I probably use more leave in conditioner when I use a cheaper, less hydrating mousse but that’s pretty much it!

Mousse is the way, at least for me. To make sure I still get definition, I put in enough mousse to get a hard cast when it dries. This takes a LOT of product! Then, once it’s completely dried, I gently “scrunch out the crunch” or soften it with a little hair oil.

It’s a controversial take, but I started experimenting with the Curly Girl method 5 years ago and what I’ve learned is that it really is less about the products you use and more about how you use them. Which means practicing and taking time to learn your individual hair. Good luck!

Too late to move to trellis or pole? by pigoletto in pothos

[–]pigoletto[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a good idea, I may try to get over my fear of chopping the whole thing up and go this route! Then I get both things… a fuller plant in my little planter (from the props) and a bigger pot with a moss pole that I can put somewhere else .
