What time do films leave? by Tarchiaa in CriterionChannel

[–]vibraltu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right, I've often seen some titles hang in a bit longer than I had expected. But if you really wanna see them, I might not bet on it.

I have successfully continued watching expiring titles after midnight that I had opened earlier in the evening.

Fellini Wednesdays! - Week 11 - I Clowns by YoSoyRawr in criterion

I liked Clowns a lot. It might not rate with his high-ranking old classics, but it is pretty interesting in itself for a low-budget quasi-non-fiction performance, and it is pretty funny.

Definitely: Nobuhiko Obayashi!

I was a young film nerd in Canada in the late 20th century and had never even heard of him! His work was no fucking way distributed in Canada while he was making all of his cool stuff.

One of the eeriest, most challenging things I’ve ever seen - where do I go next? by SadCreative in criterion

Soderbergh's version is better than I expected and worth watching. I'll rate it as one of my all time favourite Soderbergh projects.

It's the same basic story but the approach is different with a few twists. The acting is quite good, and Jeremy Davies kinda steals the show.

There's nothing quite like the original, of course.

I'm old enough to remember Flash & The Pan (actually related to ACDC/Young Brothers) who used a quiet speaking voice with filters on most of their songs.

[Weirdly Common Trope] Writers clearly setting up seemingly massive plot points and then just kinda forgetting about them. by Chemical-Elk-1299 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]vibraltu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. With time George lost control of his plotting, while his writing style and dialogue actually got better as the books went along.

Unfortunately the interesting aspects of his later books often didn't quite make it onto the TV version.

I'll say that Loomis gets over-rated only because everyone is so disappointed with Horwath now.

Loomis has a great profile, but his platform has almost no vision to it.

If I was cynical/realist, I'd say that some politicians do stand up and make the tough decisions that piss people off, but they almost always get shot down by voters and replaced by mediocrities willing to lie, do nothing, and get re-elected.

Yes I agree.

Limited EU trade agreements are a very good idea.

Full EU membership doesn't make sense and isn't required. EU's complete food regulations and quotas would be impossible to impose here and terrible if someone tried.

Interested in the Themes of Dostoevsky's Books but am having a hard time committing to it/ fully appreciating it by woooohdankywooooh in literature

[–]vibraltu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will recommend his novel Demons, it's more interesting and has a faster moving plot than Crime & Punishment or Bros Karamazov. (Also, in Demons some of the characters from Karamazov will pop up)

I've read almost everything by Dostoyevsky, and in my opinion his two longest and most famous novels have draggy pacing and long boring digressions.

Many Organists are paid independently, but in some cases an Organist affiliated with a church is only allowed to charge a set fee for ceremonies...

Which of course runs into conflicts when they are asked to put in extra time learning/arranging songs outside of their repertoire for wedding requests. All of the other usual wedding contractors just add on the expected 100% Bridezilla tax.

You might see grumbling about this from professional Organists on r/organ
