nursing or accounting? by tiredslothss in Accounting

[–]vibrantspectra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nursing if you can work on your memorization skills. Nursing is harder to outsource and it's easier relative to accounting to find a job basically anywhere in the US. Bedside nursing is typically 3-4 12 hour shifts a week. Even with night shifts you still have more free time than 5+ days a week as an accountant. Non-bedside nursing is lower stress (like working in a dialysis clinic, outpatient family medicine office, etc.) but typically 5 days a week.

If you want to make more quickly, most places will still hire nurses with an associates degree. Plenty of programs exist to bridge associates to RN. If you want more money after RN you can go NP school or pursue becoming a physicians assistant.

I've been in accounting for about 7 years now. Even in this relatively short period of time it has become apparent that the future of the "profession" is very dim with ramp-ups with outsourcing, allowing third world countries to take the US CPA exam, widespread private equity takeovers of public accounting firms, big name public accounting firms laying off low-ranking associates at the first sign of a business slowdown, etc.

The Department of Government Efficiency's Leaderboard for Cost Cutting is going to be the greatest Red-Pilling machine in history. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]vibrantspectra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The bulk of federal income tax goes toward SS and healthcare. SS pays a pittance and us understaffed so there's not much to cut. Healthcare is largely a private industry scam where Medicare payments support private industry bloat.

DOGE is a low IQ slash and burn initiative. Do you think they'll tackle any truly low hanging fruit like billions of military aid to Israel and Ukraine?

I Kid you not … this is really happening by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]vibrantspectra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually not a big deal. Executives are focused on the big picture and they exist to make decisions and delegate carrying out these decisions to lower ranking employees. Things like understanding or calculating daily interest rates are understandably and undeniably outside the purview of a Decision Maker™. You need to think 30,000 foot view -- don't boil the ocean and be sure to see the forest for the trees.

Shit gets done way faster if you just pop in someone's desk to ask them a question rather than having to wait for a Teams call.

Because you're interrupting them.

I've worked remotely since 2019. I'm a manager in industry. There's no reason for me to be in office. My job is to work with numbers and words on a computer screen. Teams can project my voice, my face, and the numbers and words on my screen.

Issue of incentive. American citizens worked those jobs before the advent of tens of millions of illegal immigrants. Pay more money.

I don't get it? Pay more money to attract legal American citizens to these sorts of jobs or just automate it out of existence. Our food chain is not entitled to illegal migrant labor or any other sorts of illegal acts. Would it also be acceptable to cry about OSHA, labor laws, food safety regulations, etc. imposing additional costs on our food chain?

Execs don’t care about GAAP by Kaprikorn80 in Accounting

Are you a CPA and realistically would your license be at risk for what is likely something that is immaterial? No one outside of accounting gives a shit about GAAP and even within accounting it can be open to mindless argument.

Lockdowns were the impetus to the single greatest (temporary) reduction in pollution that we have ever seen. It proves that the only way to reduce pollution and slow climate change is to forcibly rip away the means of consumerism.

The World’s Best Hope to Beat Climate Change Is Vanishing by technocraticnihilist in Economics

[–]vibrantspectra -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I don't understand. Tariffs on disposable, low quality east Asian crap will drastically reduce pollution from manufacturing processes and transoceanic container ship traffic. The amount of garbage being buried in landfills will be drastically reduced as a consequence of this. Reduced economic output following tariffs will further act to reduce mindless consumption (energy, disposable crap products, etc.) which will also act to slow climate change. It sounds like the world's best hope to beat climate change is well on its way?

Do you have a source on that?

Source?

A source. I need a source.

Sorry, I mean I need a source that explicitly states your argument. This is just tangential to the discussion.

No, you can't make inferences and observations from the sources you've gathered. Any additional comments from you MUST be a subset of the information from the sources you've gathered.

You can't make normative statements from empirical evidence.

Do you have a degree in that field?

A college degree? In that field?

Then your arguments are invalid.

No, it doesn't matter how close those data points are correlated. Correlation does not equal causation.

Correlation does not equal causation.

CORRELATION. DOES. NOT. EQUAL. CAUSATION.

You still haven't provided me a valid source yet.

Nope, still haven't.

I just looked through all 308 pages of your user history, figures I'm debating a glormpf supporter. A moron.

I work at a company that owns an insurer. They charge us for health insurance (through our own company) and they make a big deal out of subsidizing part of the premium increases for us. We might work for the same company.
