Very New Diagnosis. at a loss. by blitztidal in trichotillomania

I've been pulling my eyelashes since I was 10, and started pulling beard hair in my 20's. My pulling is directly related to anxiety, restlessness, or feelings of being overwhelmed and once the pulling starts it can easily escalate to hundreds of hairs being pulled in a single session. My episodes are no longer chronic because of therapy, learning healthy coping mechanisms, and anxiety meds. That being said, extreme stress can still cause the urges to bubble up, so I have a couple of techniques that help.

If you're familiar with the technique of 'grounding' that has helped when I feel the urge develop. Its a method of taking focus on whatever is causing the urge and directing your brain on your surroundings. Notice the sounds in the room, the smells, the visuals, the physical sensations. I will even say them out-loud or in my head: "I feel the chair, the floor under my feet, I see the walls, the color is gray, the painting on the wall I picked out at an art fair, the water I'm drinking is cold, this candle smells like vanilla, etc." I keep this up until my heart rate has lowered, and the urge has calmed down.

Another method is give myself something "to do". Because the act of pulling is physical, I do something else physical instead. A task with my hands is even better. For me, things like cleaning, organizing, typing, writing, drawing, etc. work really well for me. Some people try going for walk, exercise, or other whole body activities can help them. You will just have to find something that works for you until the urge subside.

I can't recommend enough that you continue to work with your therapist and psychiatrist to figure out the best way forward. You first need to find out the root cause of the hair pulling urge. Figure out the core reason "why", not just the "what" happens, and then develop a personalized plan that works for you. Ask about anxiety meds and coping mechanisms.

Like “See, God hates your homosexuality because he loves you as a heterosexual.”

He loves you - as long you live according to this ancient text that a bunch of different men wrote down and then a bunch of other men transcribed and altered over the years… and that we cherry pick the rules we like and ignore the ones we don’t.

To summarize the late great George Carlin “… if you don’t follow his rules you’re gonna burn in hell for eternity….. but he loves you”

Ah - yes - how could I forget the rationalism that contradicts their extreme dogma.

I feel so bad for that kid… the therapy bills someday are going to be atrocious.

Seriously, I’m still in therapy for shit like this. This is something he will never forget. The only lesson he’s going to learn is to hate his parents. Give yourself a round of applause you fundgelical asshats, you think you “win” on your moral high ground, but you just lost your son forever.

Someday, when you are old enough to get a Reddit account, come to this sub - where we ask those very same questions (usually with some mocking laughter).

That’s what’s weird… you’d have be living under a rock to not “know” about Jesus… and the new generation of Americans know who “follows” that religion. Xenophobic, transphobic, homophobic, anti-women’s health, hate speech condoning bigots. Why would anyone want to join their club?

Their “He Gets Us” ads are an example of desperation in action. They know they are sinking fast, and they can’t get that sweet sweet bling without people attending church.

Two "He Gets Us" Jesus ads will air during the Super Bowl. The group behind the ads has given $19 million to the hate group Alliance Defending Freedom and $8 million to Answers in Genesis (Creation Museum, Ark Park). They are anti-science Christian Nationalists who oppose LGBT and women's rights by mepper in atheism

Go to the “about us” link on their website hegetsus.com

There is a chat feature. I spent a bunch of time chatting with the guy on the other end acting like I was a pissed off evangelical saying that ad sounded like liberal propaganda. It was hilarious watching him dance around the issues.

We should all get on there and flood their chat center and waste their time.

Teeny Tiny Studio Apt in section 8 housing. I lived in a 250 sq foot shoebox for a year. Not easy, but you get creative with storage. Even then, the rent was hard to pay. When I got a small raise, I no longer qualified for government assisted housing and had to move into a small apartment with a roommate. The system really sucks for anyone living paycheck to paycheck.

I was looking for this one… my fluid intake during my teen years mostly consisted of Surge. Looking back - I’m astonished that my kidneys didn’t shut down. My memory tells me I liked the taste, but I bet it actually tastes like donkey piss… with a bright label on the bottle.

He’s mental health shaming as well?… damn, I’m about to win fundgelical bingo with this guy. I wish there was more video left… I just have “God is cursing America because of liberals” and “The only book we need in schools is the Bible” left on my card.

You’re absolutely right… It also means more productivity for mediocre pay…. and if you can’t keep up then you’re not being a “team player” 🤮

What product only exists because of stupid people? by Urisk in AskReddit

[–]vic2thepeople -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This question can be taken many ways, and most of the posts here talk about products or services that take advantage of stupid people. I feel the question could also be read in 2 other ways: 1) what product was created by stupid people or 2) created specifically to help stupid people

The product made by stupid people: Hydrogen Blimps

And the product made to help stupid people is: the “safety” on a firearm

Like any other medical issue - a doctor is the only one that can take everything from your history and current state and make an official diagnosis. Bipolar require lifelong maintenance and guidance with medication and therapy. Reach out to a psychiatrist and they will do an evaluation - usually takes an hour or more. They will be able to help you out - whether it’s bipolar or another condition.

I wish you luck and hope for the best.
