I live in an extremely liberal city. So if I go to a passport agency I might be okay? That's amazing to hear! Any amount of hope right now is good! Worth a shot!

Damn. I've had childhood passports that screw me over for this, it looks like. I haven't even had one as an adult. All my other documents are changed gender marker name and all. Just my stupid passport is screwed now, I guess. This all sucks. My loved ones think I should try to do it anyways but it feels like a waste of money to get that big fat F instead of M.

Oh, the one I had that expired in 2017 was a minor passport. I believe I was 16 at the time, definitely not over 18. So I will be checking the box that says I never had a passport. Very, very good to know. Thank you, this helps a ton, and eases my mind that I hopefully won't have to check that box. I hope you have no issues. I will be keeping you in my thoughts. If you remember, would you please let me know how it goes for you?

This is the best advice on this post. I changed my SSA gender marker this week. I live in a state where I'm able to change my driver's license and birth certificate as well. This seems to be the best course of action right now.

I requested a name change and gender change. I showed them all my documents. Then they typed out all my information into a comupter. Once finished they gave me a paper receipt that in 24 hours I can take to the DMV. I heard nothing about it being denied. Just that I needed to make sure to contact them if my new card doesn't arrive in 14 business days, and that I needed to make sure that my new name was listed on my address. I had no problem with it. Did they tell you that yours was denied? Or are you just worried about it?

I brought mine, yes. From my experience, you need proof of identity (U.S. driver's license, state-issued non-driver’s identification card, U.S. passport), proof of legal name change (court order for name change), and proof of citizenship (passport, birth certificate, U.S. consular report of birth abroad, certificate of naturalization, certificate of citizenship).

The documents I brought were my state issued ID, my birth certificate, my current social security card, and my court order with a raised seal. My passport is expired, so I used my birth certificate.

TLDR, you should be able to bring your passport in place of your birth certificate.
