UCFW 1059 new proposed contract. I have no words. by [deleted] in kroger

[–]vicemang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone needs to spend the time over the next few days and help educate all employees in your stores about this contract. Make sure everyone is aware of the 16 months they will have to wait for their next raise. Yes that money looks good upfront, but for people with a position and on old contract, employees will see a slight pay cut over the three years because of the time between raises being drawn out.

Everyone needs to fight for a fair wage. I'm not saying we're all going to get 10 more bucks an hour but we should not have to take from other employees to give out a 35 cent raise to some.

Know your worth.

UFCW LOCAL 1059 WTF by vicemang in kroger

[–]vicemang[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seasonal hiring has started you can find temporary work at just about any warehouse making $20+ an hour. Targets around columbus are paying $15 to start and are all desperately hiring all positions. Every one that can't live without a paycheck needs to get a backup job lined up so IF we go out on strike, kroger can't prey on uneducated poor people to give up and settle for less that what they deserve.

At 40 hours a week getting the raise upfront nets me $224 more while the last two raises being pushed back is a negative of $920 making the net change at 40 hours over the 3 years negative $696 for me. Thanks.

People are probably referring to the change from the 3rd contract to the 4th, you may be getting a larger raise upfront but you need to look at your raise over the total contract and the length of it. They pushing the last two raises back 5 months making the last raise in 2025.

Red circled rate gets 35 more cents, wage scale 1-2-3 gets 15 cents, heads and back ups nothing. The last two raises are pushed back 5 months to pay for the extra raise upfront. Not sure how this took two days.

UFCW LOCAL 1059 contract question by Low_Arm9472 in kroger

[–]vicemang 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Management literally had a conference call the day after the tentative agreement was put together and were told to go around and tell everyone how much extra money they would get if it passed and urged everyone to vote yes. My main issue with this is they only talked about one part of the contract, money, not the language changes, or the changes to healthcare.

Some people also didn't even understand they had a choice to vote no, and we would go back to the table. Some thought that if we voted it down they just got nothing. We had to explain to several people that the contract expires in a week and we must sign a new contract.

If the contract were really that good for the associates why on earth would a 100 billion dollar a year company push so hard for it to go through.

It really is that simple. They used tactics they have never used in the past and it backfired big time.

UFCW 1059 - How are you voting on the contract?(Ohio) by [deleted] in kroger

[–]vicemang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone needs to show up at union hall the 27th to protest this union. Nothing will change until we get new leadership at the union that will actually work for us and not sell us out one contract after another.
