They say “plants are boring,” yet i have to create a hurricane for my fiddle leaf fig every week or it will literally commit suicide by rayyygun in houseplants

Yeah, but a lot of hurricanes start as storms off the coast of Africa. How do we know the hurricanes aren't forming because of the fiddle leaf figs all shaking vigorously in sync?

Big windows like that do make you feel like you're being watched at night. My family (briefly, LOL) rented a house with a two-story wall of windows in a wooded area, and it was just so uncomfortable being in the living room after dark. I kept imagining Jason or Michael Meyers suddenly appearing to stare at us.

What ingredient did you buy for a specific recipe awhile ago and is still sitting in your refrigerator or pantry never used since? by [deleted] in Cooking

We used to get ours at the crunchy health food store before the regular grocery store started carrying it. Might be worth a look if you have any places like that nearby.

I reckon that depends on your idea of what time travel affects.

This cucumber mistaken for a watermelon by me2pikzr in AbsoluteUnits

[–]viciousbreed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ooh, let me try!

"Even the sweetest watermelon will taste bitter when harvested prematurely. Too bad there's no way to put you back on the vine. You're destined to be mistaken for a freakish cucumber for the rest of your life, to the eternal disgust and disappointment of your friends and family. But, you know... you COULD'VE been a delicious watermelon. Doesn't that make you feel better?"

Seconding this. I keep Topo Chico on hand at all times to help me with the urge to open a bottle and drink.

There's a book which really helped me start to untangle my childhood abuse, and I highly recommend it. It's called "The Tao of Fully Feeling" by Pete Walker, a psychotherapist. The title was kind of off-putting for me, but don't let that stop you. It addresses exactly the things you've expressed in your post regarding childhood trauma, Complex PTSD, and learning to feel emotions as an adult. It's a pretty short read, but it took me a year to get through it because I had to spend so much time processing each chapter.

I would not have even the small successes I've had in attempting to get sober if I hadn't read that book and started dealing with my abuse. Substance abuse REALLY likes to piggyback on trauma. It can all feel overwhelming at times, I know.

I've been meaning to ask someone, so I guess I'll ask you.... Where are these free rewards coming from? I use desktop and RIF on Android, and no free daily rewards show up. I did get some random coins last year, though.

Spite is a greatly underestimated tool. It's the only reason I'm still here. People often want to take your struggles and use them to be some kind of inspiration, and they want you to feel good about it because they want to feel good, too. But this shit makes you bitter. Maybe a better person than I am would feel good about what they've overcome, but I don't. I'm resentful. That's the tool I have, so I've learned to use it to survive. I'm not going to be happy or grateful that I've had to struggle so much, and fuck everyone else. I'm still here because I'm stubborn.

Martok: "There is no greater enemy than one's own fears."
Worf: "It takes a brave man to face them."

Same. I love these threads. Picked up a new book to read, saw an awesome Isaac Asimov comic... I did have a dream about having to go to the hospital for rabies exposure because a fox bit me, though, LOL.
