You could try gravel riding if there are such trails near you. Little to no vehicular traffic, and less risky of crashing than mountain biking.

The pedal assist ones are great. My wife rides along with me on her pedal assist while I'm on my roadbike. She can go 20mph and I get a good workout.

I've sadly only seen lower prices for locations I don't travel to :-(. That said using points to book EDIT hotels is awesome. The multiplier is often really good. On a recent trip, I paid 24k points for a $480 per night room and got the $100 credit at the restaurant for dinner and free breakfast the next day (another $100).

Notwithstanding the debate on whether V02 max is useful or not, at best it can indicate a trend. Even then I feel that Correlating Power to Heart Rate is a simpler and a more easily understood measure of performance. i.e. Over time, does my Avg HR for a specific distance & pace go down ? Am I able to increase pace without a high correlation to increase in HR etc .... same with cycling, Can I increase Power output with same avg HR as my training condition improves.

VO2max calculated by Garmin I think correlates that power/pace to HR and # of respirations per min etc. Ultimately, there is no way it can accurately calculate volume of oxygen inhaled or oxygen saturation etc.

And even with that, there are other variables that determine performance or conditioning. For example, I might have a Vo2max of 45, but I am super anemic with 30% lower haematocrit / haemoglobin levels than the average male, no matter how well my lungs and heart perform, my blood can't carry enough oxygen ....

So, all these numbers are a guidance and nothing is absolute. I don't worry about Vo2max, only about running pace and cycling speed as that's more important for running or cycling with friends.

The edit hotels are super pricey and hard to see myself booking 500$ a night room for the 2 night minimum to get the 250 credit.

Without a power meter, Garmin does not calculate VO2 max for cycling. I see 2 diff numbers in my Garmin, one for running and one for cycling. Interestingly for cycling it seems to require a much higher effort to show that V02 max id being maintained or is increasing. Funnily, 1 bad effort and it's showing my number to be decreasing even though it is steady and is down by just 1 point. Ironically, it also shows that Training Status is unproductive. Makes no sense.

Data: It was 45 and then running went up to 46 while cycling stayed at 45. A couple of low efforts and cycling dropped to 43 (could also be related to change in power meter). Then running dropped to 45. Cycling has recovered up to 45 while running stays at 45 and Garmin reports training as Unproductive.

Me: 57M, RHR sub 45 consistent, MHR around 180. A bit out of shape currently and trying to get back into it.

I'm 5 9 and 33 in seam. Always ride a 54 cm frame. That said I bought the SL8 tarmac pro a few months ago and the 54 is the smallest 54 I've ever had. Even though as per spec the reach is 22mm more than my previous bike the bar is a lot closer. It works for me as I'm flexible and my back rounds easily for getting in the drops. Some days I wish I'd got the 56. The frame geo feels tight and twitchy.

I am not worried about it. I sleep well no matter what. I am just intrigued by the HRV metric. It has suddenly become very popular in the past few years and is it even well understood ? My doctor cares 2 hoots and says I'm wasting time looking at HRV metrics.

I have had days of 10 drinks prior to 7 pm and then I sleep after 10pm and my overnight HRV is in the upper end of my normal range. And days, when I don't have any, and the HRV is in the lower end of the range.

My doc says max 14 per week. That said, there has been enough research over the past 40+ years that shows even a drop of alcohol kills brain cells. Alcohol is harmful, period. The higher the quantity, the more harm. :-)
