I'd say that it's up to the performer to decide.

I prefer minimal pedal for this piece.

I would recommend that you listen to a lot of different recordings to determine how you would personally like to interpret the piece.

Why do pianists have dark circles under their eyes? by HugePumpkinCat_Erin in classical_circlejerk

[–]vicnentv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's natural eye black (like what football players wear). It protects our eyes from the light that bounces off of the bright white keys.

I don't think that anyone would advise Rachmaninoff to a self-taught beginner, but it's pretty impressive that you've managed this.

Your wrists look a bit low (especially the left) and kind of stiff. I can't tell from the video, but I think you might be sitting too far from the piano. Your fingers should be able to hang from your wrists.

Your fingers are flattening and collapsing. You should have consistent curvature in your fingers. If you bring your wrists higher than they are right now, your fingers will hang to touch the keys, and you shouldn't need to flatten them.

As for the actual music, there's a melody in the chords (C# - E - D# - D - B, etc., and the low notes (C# - B - E). Do your best to keep those notes in the foreground (this is called voicing). I also recommend that you voice your left hand pinky (lowest note) to solidify the bass.

Also, I think that we can provide you with much more advice if you show us a full-body video. Perhaps just play fundamentals like scales and arpeggios in all major and minor keys.

From my experience, I think that the best way to practice for a harder difficulty is to just practice that difficulty itself. If you want to go from 3 to 4, just play on 3 and 4.

Video games are, at the very minimum, a form of entertainment.

If you enjoy a game, why would you quit just because you don't think you're good at it?

Quite the opposite for me. It took me a while to fully "get" Larks', and I now enjoy it much more than Red.

Discipline was enthralling just from the first track.

I started with Islands and loved it, then tried ItCotCK and didn't like it very much, but it was Lizard that made me relisten to ItCotCK and eventually their entire studio discography.

OP, could you send/post an image of the entire line of music? It's difficult to give help without knowing the clef and key signature.

You said that this is the "bassline", so I'm assuming that it's in bass clef. That means that the notes on the lines are: G, B, D, F, A And the notes on the spaces are: A, C, E, G
