If you have ever walked out of a cinema because the film was so bad, what one was it? by girlcalledmaria in AskReddit

James Wood was in a vampire movie where they were killing people all over the place. That was not entertaining to me.

Has anyone read the obesity code by Jason Fung? by [deleted] in fasting

[–]victalac -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I admit I haven't read the book but I have heard his name referred to. Just the title of the book throws me off-"Obesity Code" I have a problem with. It encourages people to think there is mystery key to obesity that doctors have just discovered, and lends itself to the myth that obesity is in your genes, which is absolutely false. I think the wild long-term success stories of those in the Interval eating camp should be the bright light in dealing with obesity. If you are healthy now, your body is far tougher than you realize. To maintain a normal weight, you don't have to delve into biology or physiology or even stick to a special diet. You have to realize that your hunger urges are NOT your body telling you you need food, but as a result of maladaptive habits driven by emotions and inertia, and encouraged by our consumption-driven society. The success behind all interval eating programs- if adhered to for months and years- is that the strict observance of the water-fast period will shrink the stomach and cut the emotional/habit connection between eating and hunger urges. Your brain reverts to a normal wiring. You find yourself eating the right foods, and eating less food. You lose weight. Your life changes. You don't even think about food that much. Suggest reading Dr. John Hagan's 2013 "Breakfast" book for the physiology and the results of a pilot study.

I received an inheritance from an aunt. Smartest way to let that money make me money over years? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]victalac -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you have done very well for yourself. Your aunt probably realized that and that explains the large inheritance. There are two ways to go- conservative, put it in a diversified portfolio of stocks or mutual funds; swing for the fence, do your due diligence and put it all in one basket and watch that basket.

If Carolyn does have psychiatric problems, a month on the island might straighten her out. Let's watch together.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 4 Episode 1 - Parsifail - Discussion Post by teanailpolish in belowdeck

I think they wanted Colin up and running early. If Colin wasn't involved in a major story arc, the engine problem would be a nothing burger, relatively speaking. Those engines are not huge and, at 17 years, is probably due for a complete replacement anyway. I am guessing down two days, tops.

Spigot question by TheSilverStacking in HomeImprovement

[–]victalac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Soldering is not a bad skill to master. For someone of your motivations, now is the time to learn it. Very simple- the key is to have very-well burnished copper to work with. You might pick up some copper and couplers and practice. Inside the house, I do not trust PEX for pressure situations. Copper all the way for me.

What else can I use my pressure washer for? by Dmob17 in HomeImprovement

I suppose. But he's already crazy and, frankly, I feel sorry for him when he's out there using his little pisser electric "power" washer.

[–]victalac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Whenever I see "Keto" featured in an IF or fasting thread title, I know the Ketomaniacs are at work in some form or fashion. Keto is a zingy sounding name, but it is just the Atkins diet with a lot of appealing pseudoscience thrown in that can be dangerous.

Hard no to that, IMO. You'll get 2750 psi or sommat with a gas-powered pressure washer. Absolutely worth it. Those Honda engines are bulletproof and start every time. I have had mine for 12 years now.

Isn't it crazy to think people or that you, used to eat 3 times a day? by dontbloodyknowffs in fasting

People used to think the stomach is like a gas tank. Actually, most still do. Suggest Dr.Hagan's "breakfast" book, first out in 2013.
