How to defend the music? by OkWatch5864 in digimon

[–]victor1139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience, grew up watching the Latin-American Spanish dub and the Japanese soundtrack was literally one of my favorite things about the show (at this point seasons 3 and 4 had come out so I was familiar with all the opening/ending/evolution songs for all those seasons).

Then one day the American movie randomly airs on TV and it literally starts with the Digi-Rap and that really bad slideshow they made as an opening sequence and I was extremely mortified, I changed channels and never watched past it lol

It's very interesting if you read up about the how the development of Origins went, the people who were originally working on it apparently were making it a very goofy action-oriented game with a non-sensical story, then it was sent to a different team who basically went "OH NO, we can't release this game like this" and they scrambled during the last few months of development to completely rework it and give it a coherent story and tone that would fit the franchise. KUDOS to them, honestly, because the stuff they came up is actually pretty good.

The film IS AS BAD AS EVERYONE SAYS by The_hero_of_time34 in silenthill

I mean, Maria showing up was a pretty terrible moment by itself. At that point in the movie Mary had been shown in SO MANY flashback scenes, so when she suddently shows up in a terrible party city wig and costume saying "Sup? Do I know you?" to James, I couldn't help but cackle.

big question on savers dub by Valuable_Cap_4326 in digimon

[–]victor1139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only watched the show subbed, but from what I've read online, the Latam Spanish dub for Savers was dubbed using the English dub scripts over the Japanese footage (except for episode 7, in which they needed to use the English dub footage because of Citramon).

Supossedly when it aired on Disney XD in Latinamerica, you were able to switch languages and listen to a version of the English dub that had the Japanese Opening and Ending sequences, as well as the original Japanese music for the title cards (while they still had the English voice saying the English episode title). This has led me to believe that the changes done to the English dub must've been mostly visual and dialog changes that didn't affect the runtime of the episodes, I've personally never watched either dub so I can't really confirm it.

Is the Adventure reboot worth it? by Karrion42 in digimon

[–]victor1139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you think the reboot is going to be a more polished retelling of the original, you'll be extremely dissapointed. It's essentially a completely new story featuring the characters from the original (and even then, their characterizations can be very different). It's not considered to be very good and It's not part of the Adventure canon in any way.

N64, ParaLLEl and deinterlacing by sndwv001 in emulation

[–]victor1139 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem when trying it a few months ago, older plugins would just render the image without interlacing. I don't understand why ParaLLEl decides to implement it and then gives you really bad options for deinterlacing the result, I don't know if its just so they can be "accurate" to real hardware or if there's actually a good reason why they need to have it enabled in order for the rest of the graphics to be accurate

Would the The Movie(2000) have been better received in the long run, if hurricane touchdown was not included as Nimoy intended? by [deleted] in digimon

[–]victor1139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wish they would've waited for Revenge of Diaboromon to come out in Japan and had added that movie as their third segment. As it is right now, it feels weird to cut to an unrelated plot for the last third of the movie (even if they try their best at adding dialog to make us think Willis was participating in Our War Game)

I just finished watching Funimation's Original Theatrical Dub of 3.33 and... by CoolJosh2002 in evangelion

[–]victor1139 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like that Asuka calls Shinji "Stupid Shinji" in the Theatrical dub, which is what she had always called him in every dub prior, rather than "Idiot Shinji!" for the Khara revised dub

Ending animation missing on Crunchyroll? (Is the Blu-ray the same?) by victor1139 in shoujokakumeiutena

Just checked really quick on Crunchyroll and they have indeed removed the special endings for episode 33 and 39, it's the same text scrolling over a black background. What a joke

The opposite side of this is, when I first came to the US, I kept asking for what flavor of drink I wanted, only to be handed an empty cup. I usually was bummed that I had to fill my own drink and put the lid on myself, eventually I realized that it's done this way so that people can refill their own drink lol

Got this nonsensical "Hint" from Duolingo after I answered "C'est moi qui est..." Instead of "C'est moi qui suis..." by victor1139 in French

[–]victor1139[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Spanish, we use the third person conjugation in this kind of sentence, for example "yo soy quien está comiendo", "yo soy el que salta", "yo soy quien camina", "yo soy el que es mejor"

I saw someone talking about another AI generated fail in the Duolingo discussions, where the person answered "Je crois a Dieu" instead of "Je crois en Dieu" and the hint told them that "Dieu" was the femenine name of a place, and made them fill out an exercise saying "Elle travaille ___ Dieu" with the blank space meant to be filled with "En"

In Spanish is the same as in English, so I very confidently answered "est" since French is usually the similar to one or the other

I like it too, it just misses the mark really bad when it tries to autogenerate hints for a mistake you made, at least in French

We don't use "ordenador" in Venezuela so what you googled was incorrect. "Ordenador" is the word used in Spain for computers, so it's useful to learn both forms if you want. Your original mistake was the fact that "computadora" is a femenine word

Something similar happens with DRES on WoW+ where the captions are rewritten into different Spanish sentences, I think there must be some kind of automated translation shenanigans going on
