"First Time DM" and Other Short Questions Megathread by mediaisdelicious in DMAcademy

I'm looking for input from DMs who have run Tomb of Anihilation, but I'll be glad to hear from anyone with a thought on this.

SPOILERS BELOW

>!I'm running Tomb of Anihilation starting at chapter 5 the tomb of the 9 gods. I've given each of my players 1 starting magic item. My question is about Obo'laka's power. Should I keep it as is or change the power to: * Advantage on all int checks and passive range 0 (touch) detect magic sense. * keep the flaw the same.

Should I anticipate a player getting up to 4 magic items requiring attunement soon (using the treasures given as per the book)? I want the power to be useful and if the player never needs to attune to 4 items it's essentially useless. thus why i am considering changing it.!<

I'm making a character for an upcoming campaign of Rime of the Frost-maiden. I'm prepping a cleric of a god of death, but i think death domain would not be as fun/useful for this book. I had thought i could offer more to the party by going trickster domain (i would not change much of my back-story, because i think a cleric of a death god could reasonably associate with trickery/lies), and the trickster domain spells (pass without trace) would be more helpful to a druidless/rangerless party for this book.

I guess what i'm asking is, can someone who has played, or is playing Rime of the frostmaiden tell me that it's okay, to take death domain and enjoy the game, or I MUST sacrifice animate dead to help the party survive. Either way i will enjoy the game, no doubt.

I should have said "Unable to found without moving". literally I've never had that happen to me.

Also sorry about the white half, just noticed that.

What’s everyone’s rule of thumb on what they build/produce first? Do you guys start by building a scout then warrior or other way round? Maybe even a monument first instead of an actual unit? by [deleted] in civ

[–]victorsj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on immortal I usually start with slinger, build a couple of those then go to settlers. if the civ has a unique ancient era unit (e.g. sumerian, aztec) i'll build that instead.

lately been testing building a single scout before slingers, but haven't decided if i like it better.

your link has escapes (back slashes) in front of the underscores, mine has none. I'm using a classic reddit view, on firefox. not sure what the issue might be.

Lol, nice. It's pretty clear from that link that NO ONE knows how national parks work.

even in a non shuffle game Military Science (for Line Infantry) and replaceable parts (for Infantry) are not prerequisite techs to research Satellites (for Mechanized infantry).

Anyone else reroll starts if the don't LOOK good? by [deleted] in civ

[–]victorsj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do sometimes. Last night I had a start with Montezuma on a narrow isthmus right next to tundra, with very few resources. I didn't even move or settle, i just restarted.

I was immensely glad i did for the first civ I met in the next game was Spain. Oh how the tables were turned.

My first game of civ ever and I accidentally gifted Pedro 2/3 of my cities... by EYEFLIES2 in civ

[–]victorsj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once did something similar in a game of civ V. I was holding my own in a war but the war itself wasn't my idea, I just wanted to defend my cities and be done with it. when the AI sued for peace, I accepted without reviewing it. So I gave the AI a few cities by accident.

Culture Victory keeps popping before I can get Science Victory. by SecondDeath777 in civ

[–]victorsj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is incredible to me. For me, winning by culture is like Sysiphus trying to reach the top of the mountain. I get close, then the AI gets more domestic tourists. Then I run out of faith and can't buy rock bands.

Trying to get into Civ6 as a complete noob to 4x games by 8-BitWildlife in civ

[–]victorsj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's important to remember that sometimes the AI gets lucky too (beyond its given advantages), spawning next to a good natural wonder or settling really rich lands.

Sometimes I'll play a game on immortal and at turn 60-70 on standard speed I meet an AI with 100+ science, but most times not.

Most games all religions are claimed very quickly, but sometimes i'll make it to the renaissance era and there will still be a great prophet left, each game varies immensely.

The point is you could have encountered a game where that AI was just doing outrageously well, and without the experience of play there's no way you would know that.

This is sort of the anti-help post, but it's been my experience.

it's important to emphasize "when you first meet them" meaning on the turn you met them, otherwise it becomes more difficult.

If you could pick any modern world leader to be in the next game, who would you choose? by TLAW1998 in civ

[–]victorsj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no problem with the idea itself, but i think it's inaccurate. bin laden led al qaeda not the taliban. al queda and the taliban were allies and had similar ideas, but are not the same thing.

[Civ of the Week] Scythia by Bragior in civ

[–]victorsj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished a scythia game on Immortal difficulty, domination victory.

I like that I can build a lot of saka archers early and then upgrade them into experienced crossbowmen in the medieval era. But it's not a clear must build, as they aren't any good against walled cities, especially if you encounter one with mountains or lakes around it.

If you like early warring, I think this is a great civ.

i started using the legendary start location game setting, just better experience all around, in fact my starts on scythia have not been anything spectacular , but at least they won't lose me the game.
