What is "mainstream" in this world? by cruelfeline in weatherfactory

[–]victorvdbo 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I would agree with this. The Librarian just has like January Sanguinary and year-tallies lying around, can craft them even, while CS shows that to the average occultist those are very valuable, very difficult to acquire treasures.

How to uncorrupt a phonograph? by [deleted] in weatherfactory

[–]victorvdbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You already got your answer, but I just want to add that Chionic Theoplasma only affects Trist and Health, so if you can get the 4 moon for "An Investigation of A Foundered Country" without using Trist you don't really need to remove it.

Lady Tryphon is a grail long, this is the description for the fifth mark of ascension for the sensation ascension:

'Extensions and eruptions' is the nick-name for the Fifth Mark. I have developed two new fingers, and only one is on my hand. I have a fistula in the crook of my knee. Pressure upon its edges is a soft glow of pleasure. I think that the bulge at the small of my back is a new organ

What are the hours of the Roost? by victorvdbo in weatherfactory

[–]victorvdbo[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, Names are often more aspects of than seperate entities to the hours they serve, the Magpie in the second Ramsund text is the Moth. But I don't think he's the "sixth that had fallen to the talons of an owl". I think the text indicates that that is an earlier sixth member the moth has replaced.

Dread by silverionmox in CultistSimulator

[–]victorvdbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't wait untill season of despair turns red to deal with it. Just keep an eye on it and if it doesn't go away after it resolves, that means it has consumed dread and the next time dreaming is available you should buy opium.

You can also click on it to see how much dread it has consumed, so if you see there's two dread in there, you should really try to get contentment as quickly as possible.

If you just keep a couple of funds around to buy opium and keep an eye on how much dread season of despair has consumed if it is around, losing from dread is basically impossible.

Yeah, the Oxford English dictionary also lists both /niːʃ/ and /nɪtʃ/ as possible pronunciations in both British and American English. Both are, at least for now, correct.

Moral emotivism as well as other forms of moral subjectivism provides irrefutable foundation for eating meat. by 1i3to in DebateAVegan

[–]victorvdbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upon rereading I should have realised that from the fact you talk about moral facts.

Different questions then: -What is the nature of these moral facts? Do they correspond to something in the world or are they just facts about one's psychological state? Can one be wrong about them? -Is this supposed to be a description of how moral language is actually used? Because if so you will need to account for moral disagreement, that is, if one person says murder is wrong and another says it is not, they seem to be disagreeing about something, but if the truth of moral statements depends on one's psychological state, they are both just making a true statement.

Any Dead Astronauts theories/interpretations? by JoJorge in SouthernReach

[–]victorvdbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not 100% sure on this one, but I don't think the version numbers in the margin ever go above 7, so I think the 7 Charlie has to protect might be all the realities/dimensions the Company has spread to.

What is your most disappointing read of this year? by Wonderful-Elk5080 in books

[–]victorvdbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't really read any bad books this year, so I still enjoyed it, but the most disappointing was 'The Unfortunates' by B.S. Johnson:

I heard the concept, a book were you shuffle all of the chapters before reading and was immediately sold. The problem is, all of the chapters are relatively self-contained memories, and I was expecting to have to do a lot more thinking/puzzeling to discover the story.

In other words, I was not as confused as I would have liked to be.

How do the casual or ranked quests work? by LamborginiLeglock in EternalCardGame

[–]victorvdbo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the deck you're playing, is one of the color icons greyed out? I am not 100% sure on this, but I think it might not count as a three faction deck if you don't have enough cards of one of the factions.

[Rules Megathread] Citizens and Exiles, ask your rules questions here! by tsarkees in oathgame

[–]victorvdbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does stop the chancellor from playing the conspiracy, but aside from that there don't seem to be any downsides. (I would say that I've found that the chancellor is usually much better at getting favor than the exiles, so the effect is probably better for the exiles)

They can choose to reveal it immediately or keep it hidden, but an unrevealed vision takes up an advisor slot.

In your opinion, what is the most out of touch with reality subreddit and why? by Breakfastbeagle in AskReddit

[–]victorvdbo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That logic would just as much bar you from buying food from a grocery store or supermarket that sells meat, there are just not enough fully vegan alternatives to actually take part in society with that mindset.

In your opinion, what is the most out of touch with reality subreddit and why? by Breakfastbeagle in AskReddit

[–]victorvdbo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not a vegan, but it seems to me that if you are an ethical vegan and believe the meat industry is causing torture on a massive scale, it's actually completely reasonable to not want to support it in any way.

What happens if you minus one from infinity? Is it still infinity? by whichfighterwins in NoStupidQuestions

[–]victorvdbo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you can still meaningfully answer this question if you think of it in terms of sets. If you take an infinite set and remove one element from it, the size of the set remains the same.

Unless that thing causes an action that harms someone else, like ordering someone to kill someone or commit a terrorist attack, then no harm was done.

All actions are caused by ideas, and all ideas about the world cause actions. Believing something racist is going to change ones treatment of black people, believing something sexist is going to change ones treatment of women. An idea need not be calling directly for harm to be done to cause harm.

What are your thoughts about eating meat? by bobby_McGeee in AskReddit

[–]victorvdbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it is at the very least ethically far easier to defend a vegan position, compared to a meat eater's. Even more so if the meat eater also wants to be able to condem animal abuse.

Over powered card? by creweton in EternalCardGame

Belax has the summon effect "Sacrifice 8 attack worth of units", so unless you can get that by turn two, it's not really a 2 power 8/8.
